Breastfeeding Restrictions

Just because you're breastfeeding doesn't mean you'll have to change everything about your daily routine, but there are a few activity restrictions to keep in mind. Wondering what you'll have to avoid? From hitting the tanning bed to breathing in cigarette smoke, we'll walk you through what's safe and what's not.

Breastfeeding Restrictions: What you need to know

Pregnancy is over! That means you're free to do whatever you want, right? Well, almost. In addition to the small person you now need to take care of, if you're nursing, there's a whole list of activities to avoid while breastfeeding. There are also activities that are just fine to partake in, but you might be questioning their safety. We'll fill you in on all the breastfeeding activities dos and don'ts in this section of Breastfeeding.com. We'll let you know all about what sorts of exercise, including aerobic activity, running, working out and scuba diving are safe and which ones aren't. We'll also let you know about any breastfeeding activity restrictions, like whether it's all right to go to a tanning bed while you're nursing. We'll also tell you about things that you might ingest while nursing, like marijuana smoke, secondhand marijuana smoke, cigarette smoke, secondhand cigarette smoke and lead paint. (Uh, the latter not intentionally, obviously.) We'll also let you know about any breastfeeding restrictions on underwire bras and pierced nipples. Just like there's likely a whole list of breastfeeding activities you're worried about that are entirely safe, there's also a list of things that are definitely not safe that you may not know about that you should be aware of. If you have any more questions about breastfeeding activity restrictions, this is the place to ask them and get answers. And, if you have your own experience in any of these categories, we can promise that new mamas would love to hear about it. Good luck!
