Yes. While it's true that breastfeeding can potentially keep you from ovulating for a while, many a mom has been surprised by a positive pregnancy test even before her first postpartum period. To play it safe, use backup contraception until you're truly ready for another child. (Use a barrier method, or talk to your doctor about IUDs, the mini pill, and other birth control options that are safe to use while nursing.)
