My name is Rachael, and I am an ALACE trained doula (labor assistant) and training to be a CAPPA certified lactation educator. I have two wonderful children, both boys. I was young and nervous when I was pregnant with my first child, and didn't know much about childbirth. Even though I read the books and took the hospital class, I still felt like I didn't know what to expect when the day came. Labor was like nothing I had ever experienced before. I felt very unprepared, and ended up with a c-section. I was determined that I was going to be better prepared the next time around. I read more, studied websites, and started reading about doulas. I decided right then and there I would have a doula at my next birth. Sure enough, I welcomed another healthy baby boy into the world via VBAC April of last year. I had such a great experience with the doula, that I decided to become one myself. I have been studying childbirth every since. I would love to meet other birth professional, pregnant women, and anyone who believes as I do that birth is a normal event to be celebrated, not feared.
