Dana A Schmidt, RN, IBCLC

Dana A. Schmidt is a 1994 graduate of Ona M. Wilcox College. She will complete her BS in Maternal-Child Health/Lactation Consultation summer of 2009 as part of a collaboration between Union Institute and University and The Healthy Children Project. As a requirement for the BS program, she attended several evidence-based breastfeeding workshops and earned her Certified Lactation Counselor certification through The American Academy of Lactation and The Healthy Children Project/The Center for Breastfeeding. Faculty included Karin Cadwell, PhD, FAAN, RN, IBCLC a member of convened Baby-Friendly USA, the organization implementing the UNICEF Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative in the United States. She is also the author of Breastfeeding A - Z: Terminology and Telephone Triage, Case Studies in Breastfeeding, Maternal and Infant Assessment for Breastfeeding and Human Lactation and Reclaiming Breastfeeding for the United States. Cindy Turner-Maffei, MA, IBCLC who is national coordinator of Baby-Friendly USA, implementing the UNICEF Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative in the United States and co-author of Breastfeeding A - Z: Terminology and Telephone Triage, Case Studies in Breastfeeding, Maternal and Infant Assessment for Breastfeeding and Human Lactation and Reclaiming Breastfeeding for the United States as well LoisD. W. Arnold, PhD, MPH. Dr. Arnold was a founding member and served as the Executive Director of the Human Milk Banking Association of North America, Inc. and Anna Cadwell Blair, PhD, CLC who is a co-author of Maternal & Infant Assessment for Breastfeeding and Human Lactation and Reclaiming Breastfeeding for the US (www.healthychildren.cc). Since becoming a nurse 15 years ago, her experience has involved maternal child health including hospital maternity as well as community home care. Dana became an Internationall Board Certified Lactation Consultant in October of 2009. She is presently employed as the Newborn Screening Nurse at Yale University School of Medicine, Department of Genetics. Dana is experienced in counseling parents whose babies have Department of Public Health positive metabolic screenings. She is an active member of ILCA and ISONG. After attending The Healthy Children Project workshops, Dana realized the importance of evidence-based lactation support in the community. This led to a natural progression of the formation of CRADLEHOLD. She lives with her husband and five breastfed children, Erin, Collin, Courtney, Kate and Aidan.
