I'm expecting in just under a month...Right now I'm a SAHM on a budget so im looking for a pump to do maybe a bottle a day for daddy/ build up a lil stash for when Grama takes the kids for the day. Anyone have experience w/ this pump?? I think the 2 phase pumping would help (im anxious about manual pumping to the right "speed" LOL)

Also, Anyone have suggestions on how to get my toddler (2 1/2) ready for seeing breastfeeding? We only nursed a few weeks and shes SURE babies only get milk out of a bottle...

Thanks ladies!

I don't know about the harmony, but don't get the medela swing if you want to increse your milk supply. It's really comfy but it lacks power.

I don't have experience with that one, but I have used the Avent ISIS Manual pump. I liked it quite well. It wasn't nearly as fast as my Medela PIS, but it was comfortable. I also liked that once I got the suction going I didn't have to continually pump. Just a thought.

Also, you can check with your insurance company. Some of them will pay for a breastpump if you have a doctors prescription for one.

Try not to worry to much about your 2 year old. Just tell her that mommies make milk for their babies and move on. Let her watch and be involved.

I don't have experience with that pump, but it sounds fine for an occassional pumping session.

You might want to check with your insurance company to see if they cover a breast pump. Mine does, but not every insurance comp does? It wouldn't hurt to check:)

Medela PIS is the one I use and it rocks! But if you are a SAHM I wouldn't pay the money for it.... as far as your dd... I know it sounds weird but my DS just happened to be in love with the movie Milo and Otis when I was preggo and it showed (pretty graphically) a cat and a dog having babies and feeding them. This opened a window for us to discuss where milk and baby food can come from. He was OBSESSED with Boobies too so this made me nervous but he has done fine and I think it was the discussions we had over the movie. I don't make a big deal of hiding it either and he got used to it quickly... now the pump is another story. he is wierd about it and laughs and imitates the sound in front of company!

LOL thanks for all the help! I think we're going to try the harmony. I currently dont have insurance as Im living in Canada BUT not covered by provincial insurance (i'm american hubbys canadian)

As a matter of fact my daughter LOVES Milo and Otis too...that's a great suggestion! I'm anxious enough about BFing in public just don't want her getting upset thinking I'm trying to smoother him or something. As is now I take insulin injections and she FREAKS "mommy dont hurt the baby, don't pinch the baby ect" But, I on the other hand don't want to feel like I have to hide it from her while I nurse... Guess it sounds kinda crazy to all you experienced BFers LOL.

I have the Medela double electric pump (was about 220 with coupon) and it is excellent! My milk supply didn't come in until the 6th day... I was worried on the 5th and everyone told me to pump and pump some more. I pumped a couple times with it and by the next afternoon I had a plentiful milk supply. It does have great power.

I use it now to store milk in the freezer and it's great. I can't say enough good things about it. It is pricey, but worth every penny.

I was given the Medela Harmony for free at the hospital. My son is only 3 weeks old so I have only used it once when my milk came in and I was really engorged. I have to say that it was comfortable and it worked well for me. Based on the limited experience I have had with it so far, I can't complain and I would recommend it.

I bought a manual Avent when I was preggo and that is all I had for over 7 weeks until someone loaned me a PIS. I LOVE MY MANUAL. It is all in what you get used to doing. My PIS would take 20 mins for 4 oz and I could get 8 oz in 20 mins w/ my manual b/c I can control the amount of pressure I use.

I bought a Harmony 4 weeks ago because I also am a SAHM on a budget and I can get a decent amount of milk with it. I like that 2-phase system cause it stimulates my let down pretty quickly . I usually get 2.5-4 oz out of each breast. I also have a Pump In Style Original and I swear I right now I'm loving my Harmony!!

I have the medela swing pump. The negative is you can only pump one breast at a time, the positive is the lower price than the others. I really woudn't invest in a hospital grade pump if you are a SAHM and will be breastfeeding most times, it seems like a waste of money. I work 3 12 hours shifts a week (nights) and I only pump at work. I work in a hospital so I actually use their pumps which are wonderful, but I use the swing if I need to at home for whatever reason and have had no problems. hope that helps!

PS: DD is my first, but no one in my family every BF before so needless to say my nieces were FASCINATED by it. My 3 year old niece started BFing her doll, it was hilarious! I think if you are open and honest about it from the start your little one will be fine. As far as BFing in public, I'll admit I was nervous at first, but when you have a hungry baby YOU HAVE A HUNGRY BABY! You'll soon find out that no one even notices your BFing. In fact, yesterday, I was nursing DD in a babies R us and unsuccessfully trying to cover her head with a blanket. She was having none of that! I looked around and no one was even looking at me! Good luck!
