I've put on about 30 lbs in the last five years. They crept up on me slowly and insidiously and before I knew it, I was a pudgebunny. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v734/Keijra/Messageboard/bunnyhop.gif

And so I begin.

Historically I know that low carb is the only way for me to lose weight. I did Weight Watchers for six months solid. I lost nothing. I was religious about following the plan too. I kept accurate notes of everything I ate. I calculated points on everything.

No dice.

The scale did not move more than a half pound in either direction those entire six months.

I'm a pretty active person normally (not now. I'm recovering from surgery). I spend most of the day on my feet walking and often running if my students get out of control. I used to lift weights pretty regularly too prior to my surgeries.

But still not weight loss. I didn't lose inches or sizes either. Nothing happened.

So I go back to Atkins. I'm almost done with week two and I will continue the induction levels for at least another two weeks to really purge myself of the bad carbs.

It is amazing to me how much better I feel. I can sleep at night. I wake in the morning refreshed and ready to face the day instead of wanting to wallow back in my bed. I used to have wicked heartburn and that too is gone.

I no longer eat Tums like candy at night because I don't need them! That alone is worth sticking to the diet.

And I get the naysayers who keep trying to tell me that my diet is unhealthy. What on earth is unhealthy about eating unprocessed foods that my body can easily digest?

What is unhealthy about veggies and meats and no sugar? I get all the nutrients needed from this way of eating. I'm not missing anything vital by not having spaghetti. Bread is not the staff of life.

Hell, we humans are designed to exist on meat and veggies. Cavemen certainly didn't have toast and pasta and twinkies. Why do I need it?

Bottom line is that it works for me. I feel good and I am losing weight.

I was miserable those six months on WW. My skin was dry and flaky. My hair was lank and brittle. I had achy joints and I had a terrible time sleeping.

So after that novel, I am pleased to announce that I have lost about five pounds.

Woot! I do low carb as well. My skin has cleared, my hair is always shiny and my IBS is nonexistent when Im on program! It never fails as soon as I eat processed foods my IBS comes back with a vegence, within hours..

My sis lost 100 pounds on Atkins. I used to be a naysayer..I thought it was the meat, eggs and cheese diet.. lol. The funny thing is I seriously eat more veggies on LC than i ever did before..

MY mother has diabetes, so this diet is perfect for me. I NEED to avoid the wonky blood sugar associated with my old diet..

Glad there is another LCer here. I feel like I can relate to you. Are you gonna stay in extended induction or go ahead and climb the rungs?

I'm thinking of moving on to rung one but feeling nervous because Im losing 4 pounds on average a week on induction..

I'm going to stay on extended induction for as long as I can. I think I want to lose as much weight as possible before I move on.

Once I am within 10 lbs of my goal, I will move up. Then I can take those last ten pounds off slowly to make sure those suckers are gone.

Isn't that odd how people have this perception that all we are eating is butter with a side of bacon?

I have found some amazingly delicious low carb recipes lately that help so much sticking to induction levels. I'm going to post some on this thread so you can try them if you like.

Feel free to pm me at any time. I'm also on yahoo messenger as Sardodox if you ever want to chat.

http://bestsmileys.com/clapping/2.gif WooHoo! Congratulations on the loss, that's excellent!

And you have no judgement from me. As long as you are healthy. I think that it's great that you have something that works for you and I wish you luck for more pounds gone. Sounds like you are off to a great start...keep it up! :)

So Christmas was a flop.

My inlaws are not healthy eaters by any stretch. My SIL asked me if I was going to stick to my diet while I was there and I told her that I would as much as I could. I knew that they didn't have the money to cater to one person's eating habits.

Tamales, spaghetti, chili, and cookies... Not a single thing I could safely eat and still remain on my eating plan. So I went off it.

BAM!! Instant heartburn. I took Zantac 75 twice a day every day because the heartburn was keeping me up at night. I ate through an entire bottle of Tums in five days.

Now that I am home, I am going back onto induction levels full force. Today marks my restart date and already I am showing signs of carb withdrawal. I ate a large omelet and ten minutes later my stomach registered me as being "STARVING TO DEATH!! EAT LOTS OF BREAD RIGHT NOW!!"

Fight through the cravings. Fight through the withdrawals. Lose that weight!!

I only gained back a half lb from my previous five lb loss though. That was good to know. It is water weight and will come back off quickly enough now that I am back on track.
