My friend lost her son who was almost 1 year old on the 10th. I don't know what happened. They have 2 older children.

If anyone has any suggestion as what type of memorial gift I can give my friend, that is comforting, pls let me know.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Planting a tree (in their yard) would be a lovely thing to do in his memory. One of our neighbors just dropped one off one day after our ds died. It was still in the bucket with the bag of roots all tied up. I wouldn't have known it was from her, except I saw her tiptoe away and get back into her truck. I was very moved by that. I didn't know how much my son had touched her.

Depending on how spendy you want to get, a nice plaque with the baby's name on it below the tree would be super sweet.

The tree symbolizes life to me. It grows. It blooms. It houses the bird feeder and the many birds that come by for a snack. It brings LIFE back into the yard, where the pitter patter of 5 year old little boy feet should roam. It's lovely to look at and I'm very glad we have it.

I hope you find something that makes you (and them) feel good. I'm sure you'll do fine. Just letting them know you are there for them no matter what is huge too.

Take care.

I'm so sorry for your friend and her family. How terrible. I can't imagine. They are in my prayers.

I think Murphy's Law suggestion of giving a tree is excellent. Dh lost his first son and a good friend of him helped him plant a palm tree he had grown from seed. It means more to dh than anything and we love watching it grow and watching birds, especially blue "jay"s enjoy the bird bath beneath it.

Dh also has a large picture of ds in a beautiful, matted frame. This may be more difficult and they may already have a nice framed photo, but seeing a photograph of ds every day is also important to dh.
