I've said I was weaning dd before but this time I am actually following through with it. For about 4 days now, dd is only allowed to nurse at bedtime. I did allow her to nurse to sleep for a nap yesterday b/c it was late in the day and she really needed a nap and I was quite sure that nursing her at that time would knock her out and give her a much needed nap.

She has gone from nursing 26 times a day (or more) to now asking me only 2-3 times a day. While it breaks my heart to say no to her, I'm quite pleased that after an intial cry for like 10 seconds, it is over and done with and she moves onto something else. I really believe she doesn't really "want" it but that she is asking just out of habit.

I want her to be done nursing completely by the age of 3 which is coming up in March. However, I'll be quite content to be nursing her only at night.

Good luck. It sounds like she is only doing it out of habit. However, I was never able to successfully nurse Rebekah, so I don't know. If she's only making a fuss for a few seconds, I wouldn't worry.

Well, we were sick about 2 weeks ago and I let dd nurse whenever she wanted and now we are back to square one, ugh!

us too...good luck. i hope she's starts feeling better.

when aiden was about your dd's age he just quit cold turkey one day. he decided he was done. he went from nursing several times a day to nothing. he nursed one time a couple days later for a few minutes but that was it.

we had been talking to him about weaning but i hadn't really been too worried about it because of his milk allergy. i was tandem nursing though and feeling a little drained and losing weight too fast. i'd told him that when he quit nursing we could have a 'no more boobies' party with a trip to chuck e. cheese. he didn't seem to excited about that when i first mentioned it, but he remembered a couple weeks after he weaned and reminded me. we agreed that the party meant he couldn't nurse any more and he was ok with that. it was just a small party. he invited my dad and siblings and we got him a small gift and my dad gave him money since he was a big boy now.
