(Cross-posted with our special group because I'm not yet sure where it belongs)
Today, the first glimmer of loss in a few weeks: 146. That's good.
Also, two nights ago I went to the YMCA to practice swimming. I was able to make it across the pool TEN times! Woohoo! I realized today that 18 lengths would be a 1/4 mile, so that's my next goal. Next week, I'll start my second session of lessons. Since I couldn't swim a stroke 7 weeks ago, I can't wait to see what happens in the next 7 weeks.
Foodwise, I have been just OK. I'm still not stuffing myself, but I have definitely eaten when not exactly hungry. My clothes are fitting really well, and people are noticing my changing appearance. :)

Great job! How wonderful! I can't wait to get there myself. :)

Thanks, Stella!
I just calculated my BMI, and it's 25.1. So close to the high end of healthy (24.9). I'm going to the pool again tonight. This was in my old journal, but I'll put it here too: Primarily, I'm learning to swim because I feel like I should at some point in my life. Any weight loss is gravy. Mmmm, gravy.... That said, though, I can at least know I'm burning calories and building cardiovascular health in the pool. So tonight, I'll work toward swimming 1/4 mile. It may happen, it may not.
I'm still toying with the idea of couch to 5k, and doing t-tapp again, but I'm not there yet.

Wow. Your swimming improvement is great! Keep it up.

Forgot to add, we are at the same weight (although your BMI is healthier than mine. You must be taller). I hope we can move on down the scale together!

WooHoo! Good to see ya, glad you're doing so well! I think I'm gonna try swimming this winter, too. I hope it works as good for me as it has for you! Keep up the great work GG!

OK, people, today I swam MORE than 1/4 mile! I rested after every pool length and it took an hour, but dammit I did it. :D

Forgot to mention total #pool lengths tonight = 22.

That's awesome! I was swimming today for a class and it totally kicked my butt. One of those things you do as a kid and don't think twice about it but after 10 years of deconditioning it kicks you all over the pool.
Our BMI's are close, I'm 25.8 and being *that* close was frustrating for me. Do you know how many points until you lose those last 2 tenths? 6 lbs and I'll be healthy :) I don't particularly enjoy swimming laps (and honestly I don't swim well, but I am great at not drowning)

ONE POUND, or a weight of 145, will bring me to a BMI of 24.9. Of course, that's the high end of healthy, and I'm going by my first morning weight on my most generous scale. So I'll definitely need to keep going for a pound or 10. lol

Yikes. I just ordered the enell sports bra (for my DDs) from ebay. I also recently purchased an mp3 player and downloaded week one of the c25k podcasts. It looks like I might start running soon. That freaks me out, but I'm high on my swimming success. lol

Oh, and I have no daughters. The DDs mentioned above are the giant flotation devices strapped to my chest.

Weighed in today at a solid 146. Bleh. I really miss those 2lb/week weigh ins.

Don't be discouraged about the weigh-in. So many things can cause the scale to fluctuate up/down a pound or two. I'm sure that you are gaining muscle, so that will also slow the weight loss down for a while, but your body will slim down. Do you feel like you can see a difference in the way your body looks?
That said, I have a hard time taking my own advice and I know how frustrating it can be when the scale doesn't move or moves in the wrong direction, even if it is just a pound or two. I hope you see some progress in the next week.
With all of the swimming you've been doing, you are going to do great with running! It is really much easier than swimming and you've already developed great lung capacity and endurance through swimming. Just take it slowly. You'll be amazed at how quickly you improve!

Hope you have fun running. If you do as well with it as you have swimming you are going to really fit before you know it!

Hey there!
So glad to see you on the new forum! Keep up the great work with the swimming, and don't sweat the scale. You are doing fantastic!

I agree with Steph. Please don't get too discouraged, you are soooo close! And you really have inspired me with your swimming.

This is the weirdest freaking thing: The YMCA women's locker room scale (the doctor's style, that you have to balance the weight on*) has me losing pretty steadily, albeit slowly. The one at home, however, barely budges. I really don't get it. My home scale has teeny tiny lines to mark the pounds, but that doesn't seem to be the issue. Whatever. I feel and look better, and we have a ball at family swim now. I race ds1 across the pool and spend time watching them underwater. It's great.
Speaking of, my swimming lesson went very well this morning. I think I've learned some new tricks to make my stroke better. Tomorrow night, after my son's Halloween party for school, I'll head back to lap swim to work on this.
Also, my sports bra should arrive tomorrow. On Monday (gulp), I'm starting couch to 5k. It's a little scary to me, but I feel like I need to try.
*Horrible, awful sentence structure there. Sorry

I decided to start c25k yesterday (Friday), and it went well! I'm going to be blogging it, so check me out if that kind of thing interests you.

Good luck on the C25K! I did it last winter and it was the best thing I could have done for myself! I could say the same about the Enell! It's uncomfortable to take it off afer you've been sweating, but compared to running with your boobs flopping all over, it's not too bad. :)
Good luck and just take it slow!

Good luck with the running! That is great. I always tell myself when I get to a reasonable weight I will start to run!
Did you get a new scale? I had a scale that worked perfectly fine, but it measured in .5 increments. I bought a new scale that measured in .2 increments. I want to know every tiny bit of weight that I lose!
Good luck today!

Cricket, it's nice to hear from someone who's done the c25k! I do feel there's hope for me yet.
holly, I think I'm just going to hang on to my old, crappy scale. lol I'm trying to cut any unnecessary expenses because we are saving to move. I MAY start weighing in at the YMCA on Thursday mornings (my swim lesson day) and just start recording that.
This morning I did day two of c25k! I blogged it here if anyone is interested. Just go to my page to read it.

You Go Girl!
From what I hear, running "K"'s is a fantastic experience!

Yes, Unicorn, I hear that too. Our YMCA is having a 5k in the spring, and I THINK the local Race for the Cure is in the summer. I would love to be able to do those. Right now, I have to focus on my teeny-tiny little runs, but maybe in a few months I can consider running a race or two.

I just added another entry to the blog. Week 1 is done! Tomorrow I have the first swimming lesson since I started the running program, so I'm a little nervous about that. Friday I'll start Week 2. I must say that c25k seems to be just the thing for breaking through my 147-146 plateau. :D
I need to drink more water! The past two mornings I've woken up very, very dry.
Here's one reason I delayed an exercise program for so long: Now I am starting to feel justified to eat anything I want, whenever I want it. Now most of you probably know that I'm not one to deprive myself of any food, but I know that I need to eat only when I'm hungry. I've started to fall away from that because I know I'm working so hard. But wouldn't it totally suck to work my ass off and end up the same damn size because I can't stop eating? That's what I'm working on right now.

Girl, watch out! I am on the same page as you are, I've never really dieted, just tried to eat healthy stuff and not too much. When I started the C25K, I swear I put on 10lbs! Running made me so hungry! I have since lost it, but it was a real surprise to me.
Good job!

I haven't read your blog yet, but I will. You have a great attitude GG, and I just know you will succeed. And it's great that you have noticed you may start to over-eat. Now you can plan accordingly and be more aware. Keep up the excellent work, I'm rooting for ya!

I think that you will do ok with controlling your foods. You have been doing well, so no reason to change now!
