what does that mean and how do you know if you have one... also... how can you tell if your milk is bad? I assume smell it but if frozen milk smells bad (as I have heard) how do you know?

After about a day in the fridge, my milk starts to smell/taste soapy. With DD1, she took it no complaints. DD2 (as you saw in my other post) is so far refusing the bottle. I have no idea if it's because of the lipase issue, so I've started scalding my expressed milk (heating it just until little bubbles form at the surface) before storing it. It totally takes away that weird smell/taste, but DD still refuses the bottle.
Here's a link with more info: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/pumping/lipase-expressedmilk.html
Generally, I think if your baby accepts the milk (even if it has a funny taste), there's no problem. HTH!

thanks for the info... going to have to give it a taste cause she refuses the bottle most of the time and I thought it was just cause she likes Cafe Mama ( I think it is that too). trouble is... I can't scald cause I pump at work and there is no way to cook there. (Lower elementary school).

I've been scalding my milk when I get home, a few hours after pumping. Still seems to work.

Bump all you like :). I'm pretty sure the lipase issue is the same as the soapy smelling milk issue. Bad milk would smell sour, not soapy. I would think scalding would still be OK once you got home from work.
