I went back to work when my daughter was nine weeks old. I have been pumping in a closet for a month but have decided to stop because I am falling behind at work. I havent really breastfed for about 3 days - but Im regretting it. I hate formula - it stinks and is so expensive. Plus I miss nursing my baby. A coworker said that she used to breastfeed at home and just do formula while at work. Is that possible?

As long as you are still bf, you should be able to continue at home. Your milk production will drop dramatically. Are you able to at least pump once during your workday?

you need to cut back on pumping one session at a time. Cut 1 session the 1st week, another the 2nd week, etc. until you're not pumping anymore. If you cut back gradually, it will be easier on your body (boobs hurt less) and likely better for your supply for when you're w/ dc.

When my son was 7 months old, I stopped pumping at work and only nursed when we were together. As bronco4grl suggested, take the transition slow. I ended up with mastitis because I abruptly stopped all pumping sessions. I had to go back and gradually decrease the pump sessions from there.

I know several working moms that did this for an extended period of time, so it is possible. Good Luck.

i only pump once at work now (7 mos) and we feed morning, eve and right before bedtime. Your production may decrease a ton, but it can be done.
