I was wondering what is the average cost to rent a hospital grade breast pump? Also I heard this may be an expense covered by insurance?

Any input greatly appreciated! :)

I rented directly from the hospital. $20 deposit, $2 per day. My insursance covered 9 days (son in NICU), I paid rest.

I am renting a pump from the hospital still and it is about $80.00 a month. Unfortunately my insurance does not cover the pump. but I can put the fee against my flexible spending account.

My insurance paid for it for 60 days then they paid for a PIS. I loved the rental so much I was kinda disappointed with the PIS at first, but at least it is mine. Check with your insurance company - mine was billed through my baby I think. The Ped. wrote the letter to my insurance and called several times but eventually it all got paid for.

I know the rental was about $60 per month plus you have to buy a $50 starter kit for the parts. If you only rent it for 2 months, you could have bought the PIS.

Thanks for the info everyone!

Dewoman did you notice a big difference in the amount you pumped b/t the hospital-grade rental and your PIS? The reason I ask is I have a PIS that works fine but unfortunately I have been relegated to exclusively pumping for my 4 wk old son due to latch problems and nipple trauma. I'm trying to hook up with a local LC to fix these issues but in the mean time, I was told the hospital-grade grade pumps are the best for moms who are EPing.

Again, thanks for the help! :)

My inurance would have covered if I had gotten pre-approval. Kind of tough for me to get pre-approval as I had son 4 weeks early and he was in NICU. It would be worth a try. I believe WIC will give you a loaner.
