Hi, my baby is 1 week and 3 days old. He was feeding like every 3hrs for like 15-20mins in each breast. He has been conjested for like 2 days now and is feeding like 10mins and not on each breast sometimes... Can my milk dry due to not enough feedings. My breast felt hard and full before and now they are soft, can it be the milk drying up? Please help.

your body makes milk according to your lil ones needs, so no i don't think you r drying up. but if u r worried now would be the perfect time to pump some after he's done eating then you will have some stored up for emergencies. also one post i read a mom said she squirted a LITTLE breastmilk in her kids nose and it helped w/ the congestion. i personally used saline and steamy showers (i held him out of the water).

Thank you for your reply... I've been using the saline water, as the doctor told me to do.. But I'm concerned about my breast.. they don't feel as full and hard as they used to, two days ago.

Your breasts won't feel quite as hard as they did at first. It doesn't mean they don't have milk in them. It means you aren't as engorged. As for your question about supply: Bf is supply and demand. If babe nurses often, your body will make plenty of milk. If babe skips feedings at the breast, it will cause your supply to decrease. As long as you are with babe and nursing on demand, you will have enough milk. However, with babe being sick, it wouldn't hurt to pump after feedings for about 5 min to keep supply up.

I thought the same thing in the beginning. You will probably never feel that hard again and you won't dry up.

I hope your little one feels better soon. ;)

Hi, My DD is 2 wks 1 day old. SHe's not sick, but I was just going to tell you something that happened today.

DD had been latched on for at least 30min. I was thinking there was no way she could be getting much milk because my breast was downright mushy. It felt completely empty. DD unlatched and I squeezed a bit, just to see. Several drops of milk dripped right out. My point is, even when they feel empty, there's milk there.

Congrats on your baby. Hope he's feeling better soon.
