We're proud parents of a healthy 14 month old baby. Mom and grandmom were deadset against even trying to breastfeed. I still can't seem to get over it.
Despite a couple trips to the gastroenterologist, occasional constipation, and formula sometimes costing over $6 per quart, our baby appears to be the picture of health. It's the long-term effects that create the most uncertainty.
I still think it is cruel for a mother, or any mammal for that matter, to refuse its only offspring breastmilk. It's the only thing the baby knew how to do. For all you expecting Moms out there, please at least try to breastfeed. If it doesn't work, then resort to formula.
