I don't know where you live, but if you're in a relatively urban area you can try looking on craigslist for part-time work from home jobs. Also, on craigslist you can post your services (for example, if you'd be willing to watch another family's child for extra $ - I see a lot of those types of postings).
Good luck!

I TOO WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO WORK FROM HOME, I WILL ONLY BE HOME FOR THE FIRST THREE MONTHS WITH MY BABY AND I WISH I COULD STAY HOME LONGER BUT WE NEED THE SECOND INCOME :(
Whatever you do, please be careful with all these sites that say you can work from home for ex: there is one saying you can process rebates for known companies at home and its all false, i looked into all of them and they are false advertisement and they want your money.

Yea most of those add on craigslist are scams.. I don't trust those adds. I wanted to know if someone here actually does something from home, a real deal.. I've looked online, everywhere and it seems as if they are all scams.

Have you looked into mystery shopping? I work with a company named GapBuster and make up to 200 a month just for eating out.

I work from home typing medical transcripts. There are some companies who will start newbies. Do some phone book or google searches for medical transcription companies in your area first because they would be more likely to start you off without experience if you were in their area for some amount of training. Also, general transcription. I worked for a company for a while that did all kinds of transcription including job interviews for the police department. The only thing you would have to invest in is a WAV pedal, which is under $100. They will email you the links you will need to access their FTP to download the work and send it back. I am not saying that they are hiring, but it is possible and there are ALOT of companies just like them. Good luck!!!

I signed up with Avon almost 9 yrs ago when my son was just a month old. I love it. Initially I spent more than I made though. lol Fortunately I had a job with great income to go back to.
Now I am 'unemployed' after moving back to be closer to friends and family with the new baby due in Nov. I figured that my likelihood of finding employment that would pay what I was used to living on was slim to none with being mo pregnant so I decided to make the jump to full time Avon. I've wanted to do it for a few years. Come November when dd is born she'll be out there with me in a sling, carrier, or stroller looking for customers, new reps, and handing out brochures and business cards. rofl My 8 yr old is already a great salesman after being exposed to my Avon business all his life. ;-)
Over the last 8 yrs or so I have lost money, made a little money, and made a lot of money at various times. For awhile I was averaging nearly $1000 profit per month working just 30-40 hrs each month on Avon. Between now and December 31 I have a goal to increase my business unit by 50-70 new representatives and advance to a higher bonus percentage level. Accomplishing that will take my overall income from a few hundred (way down due to move and rebuilding in new area) to a few thousand each month when combined with my growing sales commissions.
Right now there is an opportunity for a new representative to earn up to $1000 in incentive bonuses during their first 3.5 months in addition to regular bonuses and commissions. ;-) I'm really excited about it even though I'm not personally eligible. I have 2 brand new reps that are really working towards earning those incentives.
Personally, I'm determined to accomplish my goals come hell or high water because I DO NOT want to turn control of my life and schedule over to someone else to tell me when I have to work or not work. ;-)
For a $10 investment (which can come out of profits made already if you collect some orders before you sign up) you can't beat the possibilities. Besides, the discount on your personal products takes them wwwaayyy below even walmart prices. Oh yeah... and the tax deductions on so many things are great too. lol
If you want to know more, feel free to e-mail me at amber.avon@yahoo.com.
*** disclaimer*** I can't sign you up myself unless we meet face to face so please don't think I am trying to recruit you myself. ;-) But I can give you answers to any questions you have and help you figure out who to contact if you decide to give it a try.
There are a lot of legitimate, viable home based business options out there, direct sales is just one category. I recommend looking into several different options and comparing compensation structures and really taking the time to consider how much time you're willing to dedicate and how much you're willing to invest to get started. If, like Avon, they offer 2 career paths (straight sales and commission as well as sales leadership which earns commission and bonus overrides) then you also need to consider the return on effort. Then make your decision based on how much income you would like to earn and the time frame you have to make it happen.
Good luck!

Hi j3ndosbx
I saw your post a couple of moments ago.
A few years ago, i have been search for ways to work from home. I spent money trying out products and i made nothing but lose more money.
Please don't feel depressed. In fact, work from home is the dream job of most people out there. That is why my profile picture showing this.
Actually there are many methods of making money online or work from home.
Many people actually try to sell you things that you don't need. I am serious.
Some ways of making money online:
1) Selling your own product
2) Selling our people's product
3) Adsense
You can visit my site: Click here
But i have two article to share as follows:
First: Tips On How To Keep Up Your Motivation If You Work From Home Online
If you work from home online, keeping your motivation up to finish tasks can be quite tricky. You got every reason to be sidetracked, most especially if you're your own boss. The temptations are all around - the television, game console, kitchen, etc. Sometimes, setting up the border line between your work and home life is difficult.
Such is a dream job for many people. However, it can be a real nightmare if laziness gets the best of you. You might find it hard to be productive, and in no time come scrambling back to having a 9 to 5 office job. So how do you keep your drive to work up each and every time? Read on to have some pointers.
It's helpful if you wake up at the same time each weekday. For example, if you wake up at 7 am on Monday, wake up at the same hour till Friday. Don't make your work from home online an excuse to stay in bed for as long as you like. Also, having to wake up at the same time keeps you from bad habits, such as staying up all night partying. If there's a need for you to wake up early on weekdays, it's easier to keep disciplined.
Wearing pajamas or nighties sure will constantly remind you of the bed. Upon arising in the morning, have a shower, whip up some breakfast and put on appropriate clothes. Put on typical office attire, if possible, to really get you in the mood for working seriously. Maintain proper grooming habits, even if nobody else is around, such as a co-worker.
Making a to-do list daily will enable you stick to a certain schedule. And make sure that you follow the timeframe given for each entry. However, try not to be too harsh on yourself. For every task that you finish, take some break. You can do anything you want during the break - from doing your laundry to sipping iced tea on the porch. Enjoying some structured breaks will let you finish chores for both your work and home.
Different people have different productivity levels, depending on the time or hour of the day. Find out when you're at your most productive mode, and accomplish your most difficult undertakings during such time. It's also important that you look for ways that will keep your productivity up for the longest time. For instance, you can listen to your preferred music tracks. With no body else around, you may play anything, at any volume, and even bob your head to the beat.
Find a quiet spot or unused room in your home, and make it as your makeshift workplace. Doing your work in the living room isn't a great idea, as all those entertainment gadgets can be quite distracting. Furnish your makeshift workplace with objects that are commonly found in a real office. This way, every time you set foot in it, you will be motivated to work. Don't forget to put a "do not disturb" sign on the door during office hours!
If you work from home online, sure you got plenty of perks to enjoy. But always remember not to abuse them if you wish to let your motivation up at all times. Always bear in mind that many other persons dream of having such job. If you want it to take care of your financial needs, do take good care of it.
Second: 10 Reasons For Women To Start An Internet Business
Starting an internet business is in my opinion, one of the fastest and smartest ways women today can make money. Here are 10 reasons for starting an internet business, and one reason why you shouldn’t!
1. Money. Pure and simple, we all could use a more of it. Whether it’s to get out of debt, build a retirement, or just simply make ends meet. With the right guidance, an internet business can start generating income almost immediately.
2. Family. Let’s face it Moms, a lot of you want to be home with your kids. A work at home job is great for just that reason…unless you have to leave home for appointments, parties, or sales calls. Then you’re right back to babysitters and being away from your kids. An internet business truly lets you run it from home.
3. Self Esteem. Many of us are so busy being Moms, and wives, and community members, we forget to forge something in our lives that reflects our inner selves. Starting (and becoming successful) in your own business can boost your feelings of self worth, and that makes everyone in your life a winner!
4. Community. Our communities that we live in are better off for us having started businesses. It provides good role modeling for our children, provides tax base for necessary programs such as police and fire, and a community where people exhibit pride and hard work is a better place to live for us all. Perhaps you will inspire more women in your community to start a business!
5. Tax Benefits. Most women who start a business at home are going to be able to take large tax deductions for their home business. Less taxes means more money in your pocket, and that’s a good thing!
6. Work at Home Household Savings.Working at home means no expensive wardrobes. The average professional suit for a woman can cost over$150! Can you imagine NOT having to buy expensive work clothes anymore, and how much money a year you can save your families budget? Also, how much do you think a work at home mom uses expensive convenience foods and restaurant take out?
7. Flexibility. Because I work at home, I can arrange my schedule to be available when a child is home sick or heartbroken, for a field trip at school, or to just take a mental health day once in awhile and sit at a park and read. How many bosses would give you the day off to read?
8. Being in charge of your own business means you are no longer at the mercy of layoffs. Don’t get me wrong, a home business can crash too…but at least YOU hold the reins and make the decisions, not someone else.
9. You determine how much you work, and how much you make. No more being paid less than you are worth, no more begging for a raise. If you educate yourself right, you can pretty much combine hard work + persistence=unlimited income.
10. You can sell your business later on down the line…it’s an investment! Build it large enough and successful enough, and many website owners have sold their sites for hundreds of thousands of dollars…and started out knowing very little about building an internet business.
One reason NOT to start an internet business…
DO NOT start a business to please anyone else. There is so much pressure on women today to do it all….many times we feel we are not successful unless we make a lot of money, are perfect moms, never gain a pound…you get the idea. Start a business for you, and your dreams, not to convince the world, or the mother in law, or your next door neighbor…that you can do it all. Running a business is not for everyone, but if you want to follow your dreams, work at home, and make a good income, starting an internet business is a great place to start.

I work from home and have for awhile with an international company that is 25yrs old and BBB accredited. I love it! Yes you have to work harder to make sure that you do not have distractions but it is so worth it to be with my kids. I would be happy to pass on some info.

I know this is old thread but I wanted to add this in case anyone is looking to work from home. Go to this site http://www.wahm.com/forum/telecommuting-moms-34/292984-wah-company-list-hope-helps.html and there are two lists (first on the first page and the second half of the list I believe on the second page) and there are all kinds of legit WAH sites ranging from writing papers for students and professors to being an online juror to call center.

I often get email from unknown origins prompting me to apply for a home based job.I've never responded as I've heard that some people have been promised a job and they ended up sending a fee without getting a job.

Madison, thats no fun. WAHM.com is a great website if you are wanting links and all for work at home ideas. Also check out womenforhire.org I believe, Tory Johnson, for other info. Granted there are some wah jobs that will cost money up front for background checks that you pay for but that is all. I just signed up with Elance.com as a provider and am hoping to get jobs there.
