...would like to, in about 6-9 months. However, I am worried that it might be tough...not from fertility issues, but from pain issues! My son is now almost 3 months old and my husband and I have not yet been able to have sex (no matter how relaxed I am, etc etc)...I had a natural childbirth except at the very end, a small episiotomy (don't even get me started about my doctor...don't think I would have needed one if he and I were more on the same page re: childbirth - but live and learn!) and a small tear. I know in my head that it won't hurt forever but I'm getting a bit worried! Have any of you women experienced this problem? Can you ease my worries? Will it get better???

Thanks!

PS My doctor says that my stitches are not totally absorbed yet and that might be causing the pain...and that it was normal. But, I welcome second opinions :)

I had a level 3 episiotomy and having sex again when we got the go-ahead was a slow process. The first few times were very gentle and it ended up being more for stretching purposes than actual enjoyment. DH was great and very patient in helping me get back to normal. You're right, it will get better, but it's sure pretty scary knowing that pain will be part of it. Hopefully you'll heal soon!

And congratulations on your little one!

I had that issue and had a c-section. It was due to breastfeeding hormones. Actually, I wasn't able to have intercourse until my son was 18 months. It was 16 months for my daughter. That's also the time when I got my first post partum period. I did get checked out by the dr who prescribed an estrogen cream - when it had been a year. However, due to the risks of the cream, I decided to wait it out. Luckily, my body did return to normal eventually. My case is rather extreme, but breastfeeding hormones can do that.
