I doubt it will have any affect on him at all. I have an occasional glass of wine and have never noticed a problem with either of my children. I'd lay off the hard liquor, though. Kudos to you for being so good for so long!

I wouldnt worry about it. I love red wine and allow myself that indulgence on a semi-regular basis (without over-doing it of course). I used to give a bottle of EBM when I was going to have wine, but I dont anymore because DS is older now and does not nurse every 30 minutes anymore, so I have a little bit of time to metabolize. I have done some research and although it passes freely into your breastmilk, it is very minuet amounts as long as you dont over-do it. I am sure that some would disagree with that, but I am comfortable with my research on the subject.

I often have one or two glasses and then nurse. I try to wait about an hour before nursing after having a drink but he should be fine.

I've also read from several sources that the affects of alchohol leave your breastmilk at the rate it leaves your body. Ackwardly stated so in other words....your breastmilk is safe for baby when you aren't feeling buzzed. I just started having a couple and I must say...it has increased my milk supply. I heard alchohol, mainly beer, is great for increasing supply. My midwife told me that somewhere in the UK, they give mothers who have just given birth a pint of guinness.

There are so many benefits of red wine so enjoy!

That's hilarious, they give guinness to new mommies? I forgot that they give dark beer to boost milk supply.
Seriously though, I'm with all the other ladies. A glass or two isn't going to affect anything. I think we all like a little once in a while.

I wasn't offered guiness when I'd given birth. I must be living in the wrong part of England. I know that some pregnant ladies are advised to drink the odd glass to help iron levels. That's a really old piece of advise, I think my Mum was told that one 40 odd years ago. I know a few pregnant women who have drunk guiness while pregnant.

I am still nursing my 19 month old, I allow myself two drinks maximum. So I will have either two mixed drinks, wine, beer....It has never effected him at all, even when I nurse as soon as I get home. I always drink and eat, so maybe that has something to do with it. I did not drink when he was newborn, but then who could I was too tired!! My opinion (and my doctors, )is it is fine in moderation.

My mother brought me a beer about 3 days after I gave birth to my daughter (now 11 weeks) because she said it would make my milk come in. It was possibly a coincidence, but my milk was in the next day! Now, I occasionally have a few beers and haven't noticed anything except she's a little extra gassy, but that could be from what I eat, too. I've been told to "pump and dump" but I never know when to do it--while I'm drinking, after I finish a drink, or what ?? Does anyone know?

I've never pumped and dumped. I have just waited to feel less buzzed (the extremely few times I have had more than 1/2 glass of beer while BF), and then BF.

That said, I never really did have more than a few oz of alcohol until my son was about 9 months old, when he was able to have solids, too.

most things are fine in moderation. Probably not wise to drink more than two glasses though, and a glass of wine = 4 oz.
