I'm expecting my 3rd. Both of my other two outgrew the carrier type carseat around 4-5 months. It has since expired. I was thinking of not replacing it and putting that money into a nicer convertible carseat. Thoughts? Suggestions?

The carseats I am looking at are the Maxi-Cosi Priori Convertible and the Britax Roundabout Convertible.

Skip it. Get a sling or baby bjourn or whatever like that and go with the convertible. Our 18 month old is still int he same seat he has been since we brought him home and was never in a carrier.

We bought the infant seat and it really does come in handy when dd falls asleep in the car. I can put her in the cart, do my shopping, and get back home usually before she wakes up. I live in a hot climate and I like being able to easily take the seat out of the car so it doesn't get too hot. When dd is awake, I take her out of the seat and carry her or use a sling.

We are having the same dilema. I need to go to Babies R Us to measure the Graco Safe Seat 1. It looks a bit longer than the rest. But, I don't know. I am having a hard time deciding. The carriers get be such a pain after my kids hit about 6 weeks, and the other two didn't like them much.

I've been looking at that SafeSeat too. I like the looks of the one that Target has online better. It will definately hold a larger baby though!

I am not a big fan of the infant carseats, except for in the car. Both of mine outgrew it too fast and were (and are) sling babies anyway. Maybe invest in a really great sling or carrier that you love instead. ;)

We have the SafeSeat. I really like it. It is a bit bigger/heavier though. My son is still in it at 8 months. It was so handy at the beginning to just take him in the stores in it when he was asleep. And it fits right on my stroller. So that is nice too. Now that he is bigger, we use it in the car. But rarely take it in places. We just carry him now.

I used the carrier with my first until he was 8 months old - we switched mainly because it was easier than having to leave the seat at the Day care for DH. DS2 is in the infant carrier, and at 6 months it looks like he's in it until one (he's only 14 pounds right now). I love the idea that I can attach it to the grocery cart.

Both my kiddos came home from the hospital under 6 pounds, so they were lost in the convertible car seat.

I had dd in an infant carrier, but I found that I never took it out of its base in the car anyway... for some reason, it was too much of a PITA to take it out and put it back in, so I just put dd in a sling or whatever. I had a Peg Perego primo viaggio, btw.

I agree, it's much easier when they fall asleep and you don't have to wake em.
