I have an electric medela. would a manual be quicker? I only pump when I am feeling engorged but I keep getting clogged ducts, the same ones over and over again so I am considering pumping more often. maybe once or twice a week if needed instead of dealing with the pain and waiting for it clear up on its own.

I don't care for my medela too much, maybe it is a control thing. I guess I think if I have more control over it then I could get more milk to come out. does that make sense? I can't get my breasts to empty with the one I have, I give up after like 10 minutes.

Everyone is different..
I LOVED my advent isis(manual) - it broke down small..and I was able to pump A LOT with it.In fact I worked pretty much fulltime and never needed an electric with it.
At home ,it was really nice for pumping one side while DD nursed on the other.

-If you aren't trying to increase your supply, or away from your babe,
You should only pump to relieve engorgement and NOT empty your breast.Remember, supply and demand ..if your pump is regularly demanding more of you,and you breast trys to keep up with supply, you will end up with over supply, engorgements and clogged ducts.

thank you!

I used an Avent manual with my son. but I question if I should use it again since Avent bottles are on the list of bottles with bpa in them.

I guess what I mean by I want to empty out my breasts is I want to empty out the clogged ducts.

I've only ever used a manual and do fine with it. I can pump both breasts in about 15 minutes usually. I've never had to pump regularly and there are times when I feel that a double electric pump might be nice...but as occasionally as I pump I just can't justify the cost.

If you're only pumping rarely I would go ahead and use the manual pump you have. Just get new 'approved' bottles.

I went ahead and used my medela because my boobs were hurting pretty bad and baby wasn't interested in nursing after I massaged them and got them all ready for milk to come out. it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I don't know why i am so anti-pumping. it is worth it if it takes the pain away, even for a little while.
