I had to cut my son down in order to get my period back. It came back when he was 18 months old. I did ovulate before it - so keep in mind you can get pg before your period returns. (Which is what impatient me tried for both times). However, my luteal phase was too short for the first two cycles. With my daughter, I didn't have to cut her down but she nursed less than DS at that age. It came back at 16 months. But, once again, my luteal phase was too short for two cycles. If you're in a rush, then I'd suggest cutting out one or two nursing sessions and seeing if that makes a difference.

What does luteal phase to short mean, I heard some women get pg before their periord returns and they carry to term??? I am sorry to hear that you had to go through those hard times!

Luteal phase (LP) too short just means that it's too short for the egg to implant. So, you wouldn't even get to the point of a positive pg test, so hardly a tough time, just frustrating if someone wants to ttc ASAP! (My losses were all late enough that luteal phase didn't matter). The LP is the time from when you ovulate until your next period shows. It needs to be at least 10 days. Implantation generally happens at 5-12 days past ovulation. So, even a 10-12 day luteal phase can be borderline. (However, my LP is 11-12 days normally and I've managed to get pg in 4 cycles or less every time. My RE isn't concerned about my luteal phase length So, maybe the 10-12 for implantation is later than normal). My LP was only 8-9 days the first two cycles, so I really had little chance of getting pg then. I've heard other bf ladies having this issue at the start when their periods return - some with LP's even shorter.
But, your body does get back to normal. I tell you all this luteal phase stuff just so you know that some women get pg before the first period but for other women, it's not possible until after a couple cycles.
