View Full Version : Dehydration?...

Yesterday at my doctor appointment, she said I was dehydrated, by checking my urine sample. I have been peeing alot, so can I still be dehydrated even though pottying so much?

Morning, or should I say all-day-long-sickness, is hitting me and I'm trying to drink even more water, but can't stomach it much. I just gag, no vomiting. Is there another way to get plenty of fluids besides just water?

I usually drink water, or if we're going out to eat, I'll get a Sprite or Sierra Mist. I need something with alittle taste right now until this nausea goes away. Any suggestions or what worked for you?

Thanks!

Gatorade should help you rehydrate quick.

When I was pregnant I had to drink water with a straw and it couldn't be very cold. Just a thought.

I lived on lemonade and sprite at the beginning of this pregnancy, and I was dehydrated too. I also ate a lot of oranges, since they are pretty juicy.

Fruits and veggies are full of water, but if you are having tummy issues they may not work for you. What about a really weak tea without sugar? Bitter/sour things sometimes helped with my HG.

I'm trying to avoid some fruits because I have been having heartburn bad. I may just have to drink some Sprite to help with my tummy right now. I do love water though, I'll have to try and drink it out of a straw.

I don't drink tea very often. If I do it has to be decaffenated since I can't have caffenine.

I have tried gatorade in the past, and can't stand the taste of it.

Would regular popcycles give enough fluid?

I think Gatorade is gross, but I love Propel and the Poweraid Option. Both are the clear versions and sweeter versions of the sports drinks. Propel comes in one with calcium too.

Drink tons of water in the evenings. You will know when you are not dehydrated when your urine is almost clear and it doesnt smell like anything. http://www.striders.net/programs/coach/handouts/hydration.pdf

They had one of these above every toilet in the army to remind us of how much to drink.

When you are dehydrated your bladder holds less, so that is probably why you are going to the bathroom a lot.

Try adding some juice to your water to give it a bit of flavor. I would drink Powerade or Gatorade, but not a lot of it since it is packed with sodium (55mg for Powerade and 110mg for Gatorade) plus all that sugar. Other "healthy" waters aren't good for you either and have been shown to destroy tooth enamel. Have you tried adding some juice (not syrup) from canned fruit into your water? It is slightly thicker and dilutes well. My mom actually would add a bit it to sprite when we were sick.

Make sure you get hydrated somehow. It will help you from feeling so tired and out of sorts.

BTW, Squirt worked wonders for me when I get queasy, but pop can dehydrate you too, so go easy on that. Watermelon also is in stores now. Maybe try some of that?

:( Good luck momma.

I love watermelon! I'll have to see if our store has it yet. I do have some canned fruit, I'll try adding the juice to my water. I have to watch what kinds of juice I drink since I'm allergic to apple juice, and alot of juice has some apple juice in it.

I wonder if v8 juice would help some, only thing is I haven't drank it in a long time.

Any fluid at this point is going to be benificial if you are dehydrated. I wouldn't be worring about my enamel or sugar/sugar free. If I could stomach it I would be focusing on getting fluids in me and then work on all the worrying points.

All I could stomach was crystal light (I couldn't stand it full stregnth but 1/2 was fine), yeah I know the whole scary fake sugar thing but it was fluid and it didn't gag the crap out of me or sending me running to the bathroom. Ginger ale may help as well. With Xander in my third trimester I couldn't keep anything down, was bloated but dropping weight quickly and began getting pre-e on top of it. I lived off of OJ and ice chips I made with the kids slushie maker.

I would think back to what you did with your other pregnancies and do whatever worked then!

I tried eating some ice chips yesterday, but my teeth are senstive and I couldn't last eating it. I tried drinking ice cold water, and the same thing, couldn't handle it.

It's just hard to get some fluid down since I mostly drink water, and now it's making me gag terriblely.

I tried drinking a Sprite earlier this morning, and it doesn't even taste good now. I've lost my love of Sprite!!

I'll be heading off to the store in a bit, I'll be checking out all the juice. Maybe something will look good.

I lived on ginger ale, lime perrier and propel when I was pregnant. I love propel- it is so good! I would drink the lemon flavor and add fresh lemons to it, b/c I was so pukey and eating lemons would help.

I had the same problem about drinking with the others because of the morning sickness, but I wasn't dehydrated with them for some reason.

Maybe it's because I'm alot older now with this one. And having heartburn when trying to stay hydrated, makes me really not want to drink that much.

Can you eat fruit? Papaya will kill heartburn and most fruits have a lot of water in them.
Watermelon? It's mostly water.

I love fruit! Never tried papaya before. I love bananas, grapes, watermelon, apples, and oragnes.

Lemonade was the only things I could keep down early in pregnancy. Strange, but true.

Lemons are good for nausea. When I had the m/s really bad I had this whole routine down, that involved licking lemons, sucking on lemons, eating salty potato chips and following it all up with altoids.
It worked well for me, after ending up in the ER from a 2 day m/s bender, dh thought I was going to vomit myself to death and drug me to the ER in the middle of the night. :D

Isn't pregnancy lovely?? :)

Salt and vinegar potato chips were one of the few things I could eat. I found all natural ones in the health food section.

OP, I hope you feel much better soon... take small sips.

Well, I did go to the store and bought a Lemonade Gatorade. So far so good. It seems to be helping me get the fluids without making me want to gag. I only bought one so I'm going to have to have my husband stock up on the stuff this week-end for me.

I did buy a can of tomato juice because it looked good, I'll drink that with my supper tonight, just hope it doesn't make my heartburn worse.

I may have to suck on some lemons also. I just can't have anything salty though, so I'll skip on the chips.

I saw Goya papaya juice today at the store and thought of you. There are a lot of different juices made by them, but I don't know if they are 100% juice or if that matters to you.

I just came back to say apologies if my post read as snippy.

I'm glad you were able to find something. And with the heartburn but store bought chocolate milk has never failed me in calming it down. Sounds weird but it worked, and it has to be store bought. My sister swears by ovaltine which I'm going to try this time. I only took a big swig kind of like taking Pepto and that was all it took.

I didn't take your post as snippy.

I love chocolate milk, the store bought kind, but it sends me to the bathroom alot. Maybe one glass a day would help me, instead of drinking many glasses of chocolate milk..lol.

LOL, Busy yeah I only sipped it or else I would have had to invest in a chocolate milk cow as much as I love the stuff.

Still_me,
Funny, right now I'm sitting here sucking on a berry rolaids. Kind if like certs, but does nothing for my breath.

It sure sucks to have heartburn this early... Did you have it with your other pregnancies? I know I had it with all three, but not until about halfway through. Heartburn is a beast but for me I knew as soon as I looked at a food or thought of one if I would get heartburn or not. Hope your's doesn't last the whole pregnancy!

I had heartburn with all my pregnancies. I just suffer through it.
