So after 5 I freaked and called pedi. he assured me that if DS is not uncomfortable or in pain, hard bellied or kicking his legs or fussing unusually then there is nothing to be done and he will eventually poop. Easier said than worried right....so today DH gets home and he hears DS cry unnormally loud and to be honest it was a very hurt sounding cry...but he was like that all day but fine after he was fed, and back to normal, well DH went and stuck his finger up his bum bum and he was needless to say backed up and when he took it out DS pooped just a little...well the Dr. did the same when he was 5 days no poop and that night after the finger in bum he pooped alot, so I am expecting him to hopefully poop tonight. I am listening to doc because he said this is normal and babies his age (almost 3 months) start to so this because their bodies have this timing that slows down and he just needs to catch up to it ...I believe him and my friend said her nephew who was BF'd went 15 days and then pooped EEEK 15 days I would just freak because I cant imagine 15 days!! Buuuttt I know BF'ers use all the goodness up and there is little waste....
Anyone else going through the same thing and how long was the longest please make me feel better!!!

It is totally normal. Do not worry. Sometimes when a baby is growing fast, there just isn't much left over.
I found that mine would sometimes poop after being carried around in a sling on my belly. I use a wrap, and for some reason, every time I carried her around for a while, she would poop.

Dd would go that long. She pooped every 10-12 days. It worked out to about twice a month for a while there. It was unsettling at first, but we go used to it. Just watch it, when dd went, it was a blow out.

I think you shouldn't try to stimulate his rectum with your finger, even a finger barely inserted can cause rectal tearing in a newborn. You need to trust his cues and he would be complaining and crying if he was constipated.
Here is the scoop on poop: www.drjaygordon.com/development/pediatricks/poop.asp

put him in a really complicated outfit,
in a bouncy seat
or a warm bathtub with your dh's hair chest to catch the poopies when they come out.
you can try taking his legs and pushing them up towards his chest with the knees bent, or bicycling the little legs around. some babes will actually tense up and straighten out their legs to avoid pooping cause they just don't like how it feels.
If you are doing to insert something rectally, a qtip with vaseline wouldn't be horrible and not as big a diameter as your finger.
consider if you are eating something that may upset his tummy and cause constipation, but it's very very doubtful that is it.

Thanks girls...I will try to relax! I know about the finger but dr said dh and I could do that if a q-tip or thermometer didnt do the trick...
So its the morning and he didnt go, he was farting alot but he has been everyday doing that and he tries to push or sounds like it at least but nothing is coming out..that is why I am worried because it seems as if he is trying to poop he just cant...

:) Or, make sure you are out and about and have completely forgotten wipes and a spare set of clothes. This always ensures a baby will have a masive blow out.

This works for a dd as well. I use a snugli front pack and whenever dd is blocked up all she needs is a nice long shopping trip to help her poop. Most of her blow outs have been in the sling.

When he DID poop that little bit, what did it look like? what was the consistency?
Does baby get anything other than breastmilk? formula? solids? vitamins?

It was breastmilk looking poop. His normal, orangy yellow thick like mud but not too thick poop. same ol same ol. He is going to be 3 months on mothers day so no solids as of yet...just my milk, and no vitamins.

I have noticed that dd has a big poop when she is in the jumperoo or the bouncy seat.

Then he is NOT constipated. If nothing is wrong (and there isn't) then you shouldn't try to "fix" it.
AT MOST a warm bath, bicycling his legs and doing infant massage - anything more than that is extreme since he has normal poop.
Constipation is characterized by hard, dry poop that is difficult or painful to pass. Infrequent is NOT constipation. The longest either of mine went was 16 days, and she pooped multiple times a day for the next few days - all soft & normal.

So funny...I have twins and one poops every day, several times a day and the other will poop one little turd once a week or two. Every baby is different and what is normal for one baby may not be normal for the next. What I do though is when the baby is pushing, pushing, pushing, I take the diaper off and spread his cheeks a little to help. Sometimes, IMO, pushing against that diaper makes it hard to go. Cloth diapers are easier b/c there is more room.

Perfectly normal. I found that getting baby upright, using his/her abdominal muscles in a jumper or bouncer really works!
