and I did not use any:

Cottage Cheese

Ketchup

Breakfast Sausage

or

Cream Cheese!

because you aren't supposed to!

If you do use these ingredients, could you tell me why?

Is it because you were raised that way or because you think it tastes better that way?

I am truly curious!

TIA!

FTR I used sauce, ricotta mix (eggs , ricotta, mozzarella and parm) and Italian sausage. For the Noodles I used Barilla no boil (the flat variety) ..nothing fancy! It was quick and easy!

LOL, I usually resort to cottage cheese if I don't have ricotta on hand.

DH makes a killer lasagna out of his homemade spagetti sauce with various cheeses that is to die for.

EWWWW! I have never heard of using any of those- except maybe cottage cheese, becuase its cheaper- and pretty tasty.-
Otherwise EWWWWWWWWWWWWW.
Ketchup and marinara sauce should never ever be together.

I have a Chicken lasanga (premade storebought) in the freezer ive been dying to try. Instead of marinara, its got a cream sauce w/ lots of veggies.

I bet you wouldn't say that ever again if you came to my house and tried my very special marinara sauce. I got the recipe from a chef and owner of an awesome Italian restaurant. He always adds a tablespoon of ketchup to the sauce. Trust me, it gives the sauce this slight sweet touch that makes it taste perfect. I get so many compliments every time I make any pasta dish with that sauce.

you could just add sugar like my Uncle's Italian mom does.

I use Cottage Cheese, Ricotta and Mozzarella. I don't know why, that is how my mil makes it. She layers pasta and cheese over and over again, then tops it with meat sauce. It's not much but pasta and cheese, so I don't care what's in it. It tastes good.

But, iew, I don't use ketchup. THe only thing I put ketchup on is hot dogs. Iew. I use a marinara sauce that I add things to like browned meat, mushrooms, onions, etc.

My sil uses tomato soup as a base for her lasagna and baked spaghetti. It's not very good.

tomato soup? and I though Ketchup was bad! I am sorry that you have to eat that!

Huh. Nope, never used any of those. MIL does use hamburger meat instead of sausage. I prefer italian sausage unless I'm making spinach lasagna.

Yeah, you can also do that if you don't like the idea of using ketchup.

I have added a pinch of sugar to my sauces.

I eat ketchup on mac-n-cheese. However, I would never ever put ketchup in my lasagna. :nono:

I put a little brown sugar or molasses in my spaghetti sauce to sweeten it.

Yeah, be thankful you don't have to eat it, blech. She doesn't even add anything to it. She lays down a layer of condensed tomato soup, then starts layering everything on it. The only thing that makes it palatable is the tons of cheese she puts on it. I couldn't eat it otherwise.

I'm with BHF. We use cottage cheese sometimes, but usually make it like the OP. I also use sugar to sweeten my sauce.

I always add sugar to my sauce to cut out some of the acid.

BTW, I've never heard of or knew anyone that used those mentioned ingredients.

Bleghhh. I hate ketchup.
And I hate lasagna with cottage cheese in it.

My MIL uses cottage cheese in hers. I just tastes icky. I am spoiled, I like ricotta.

I do use cottage cheese from time to time just because sometimes I miss the way my mom used to make it; otherwise, nothing else on the list. I am curious as to how some would use cream cheese in lasagna. As a person who dearly loves cream cheese, I would wonder how you could use it in lasagna. Does it take the place of the cottage cheese or ricota cheese?

Cream cheese in lasagna is actually damn good; it just makes it creamier. When I use it, I chunk it up and blend it in with the cottage cheese/ricotta. It doesn't take the place of it, just adds to it.

The idea of ketchup in there, though, that skeeves me. My SIL though, does not use spaghetti sauce, she just uses ketchup. I know, it makes me want to vomit as well.

I fail miserably at lasagna. It taunts me.

My ma on the other hand, makes a killer lasagna. She uses ricotta, cottage cheese, mozz, and a bit of Swiss cheese. She uses Prego for the sauce and refuses to use anything but that. There is no meat in hers.

My MIL, makes lasagna with sausage, hamburger meat, and pepperoni. It was so greasy on top that dabbed mine off with a napkin. DH picked it up and I cooked it at our house before she came over. I didn't uncover it and she was annoyed that the cheese wasn't brown on the top, but since it was swimming in grease, I don't know how it could of. She is a great baker, but should stay away from cooking sometimes.

I have never in my life heard of anyone using ketchup in lasagna. That is like...... so not cool. Abuse! Abuse of lasagna goodness.

My dad makes a killer lasagna. Italian sausage, beef, seasonings, ricotta cheese, mushrooms, fresh pepperoni, peppers and onions if you so choose, italian cheese blend, mozarella cheese, and homemade marinara sauce oh and the noodles of course. 1 piece of his lasagna is 900 calories (yes I figured it out one day). It weighs about 1.5lbs and it is the best you have ever tasted, I promise.
He also has done a mexician style with beef, beans, onions, mexican seasoning, tortilla's instead of noodles, cheese and enchilada sauce. Top with your favorite toppings.
He has also done a chicken alfredo one with chicken, broccoli, homemade white sauce, fresh cheeses, and mushrooms.
Mmmmm, I am hungry now.
