at my mom's group they have a scale and today I did the weigh baby and then nurse baby and then weigh baby again thing. well she nursed for less than 5 minutes and only on the one side and she gained 4oz. does that mean she ate 4oz. of milk? that is what it sounds like to me but I was too shy to ask the LC who runs it or any of the other moms.

guess I can stop wondering if I have enough milk if I have that much milk in just one boob and fill her up so quickly.

she is 16 pounds 11oz by the way. she was 6 pounds 6oz. at birth.

I would imagine that's what it means.

Now you got me curious as to how much dd eats at a feeding, lol! I never thought to measure it that way. I always used the stretch marks on my boobs for markers. :)

stretch marks on your boobs? I got them too. I managed to avoid stretch marks on my belly but my behind and my boobs got them! I can't help but give a funny look when someone comments on how I didn't get stretch marks then they see my belly.

the LC at the hospital I delievered at first did the weigh the baby thing for me. she was 3 weeks old and after nursing on 1 side dd fell asleep she said dd ate 3oz worth so she is allowed to fall asleep afterwards.

Yes, she drank 4oz. Don't you have OALD? If so, that explains why she drank so much, so quickly.

when I have a let down while I am nursing, if she pulls away then my milk can spray a few feet away. does that mean OALD? my let downs are also painful most of the time. I am not for sure if I have it or not, I honestly never looked into it. I guess because she is gaining well and everything and I don't want to stress over it since she is nursing well. I guess I kinda "block nurse" but that is her decision, she only wants to nurse on one side at a time.

Sounds like she is doing great. When my ds was small, he would only nurse from side at a time also.

If it is spraying like that yep...I have hit my ds in the face a couple of times. My mother thought it was so funny she laughed and laughed.

Yeah, that sounds like OALD. And yes, that means your baby got four ounces. Go baby, go momma! You are the master of the milk!

It's not always accurate. Only a very specialized scale (Medela Baby Weigh) is designed to accurately assess how much a baby has taken in at a feeding.
