Apparently DS is behind on vax.
Apparently the MMR starts at 15 months.
Apparently when we left after his 12 month appt I was supposed to know to schedule a 15 month even though the office scheduled an 18 month.
Now I ahve to apply for a waiver to keep him in daycare. Now he has to have a SHIT LOAD of MMR within 6 weeks of each other.
I am MAD as heck about this. The doc's office had the nads to go off on ME for not scheduling his 15 month! THEY ARE THE ONES WHO SCHEDULE! Doc literally said as we left his 12 month- see you in 6 months. Oh, and YES, we HAVE been there for sick visits since then, so someone could have said SOMETHING.
How darned ANNOYING! Since WHEN does the MMR start at 15 months!?!

MMR is usually given at 12-15 months and at 4-6 years.
What do you mean by a "shit load of MMR w/in 6 weeks of each other?"
Signing a waiver shouldn't be a big deal.
Erm... ::scratching head:: I don't delay, so I don't know anything about that, but yeah, that does sound frustrating.

he has to make up the 15 month and then 6 weeks later get the 18 month dose to be in DHEC compliance. :(
ETA: I am not signing the waiver, the Ped is going to write one up and put it on his record.

No way in hell would I let my kids get that many MMR shots so close together. I wish I lived closer to you! I'd be able to help you at the restaurant and babysit.

I know, I am a wee leary of the dose being so close. When he goes in next week for the first round I am going to plead with the doctor to extend the waiver longer. I am hoping she will agree since this is completely their fault.
Move on down, it is so pretty here and the pollen is gone ;)

I still don't understand why he will need a second MMR. Having delayed the 15 month shot for 2 or 3 months shouldn't change the schedule.

That does sound frustrating. Especially sense you have been in there when he was sick. My dr's computer has a little window that pops up if we are behind on vaccines.

DHEC in our state requires compliance to keep the children in daycare. That is the issue. To remain compliant he has to make up the 15 month now and in 6 weeks have the 18 month done (he turns 18 months next week). 6 weeks is the minumum wait time between MMR doses as per the Ped's office.

I didn't mean to say that you don't have an issue, I just didn't understand.
I was thinking that they were making you get an additional dose but now I understand it to mean that after his second dose he will be done.
I'm pretty sure that the second dose of MMR is just because something like 3% of people don't develop an immunity to measles after the first dose. Maybe your dr. would be willing to just give your ds the measles vaccine rather then MMR for the second shot.
I'm sorry you are dealing w/ this.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. Depending on the ped, the first MMR shot is anywhere between 12-18 months here. My first ped did it at 12 months (though I delayed it for DS). My second did it at 18 months - but I skipped that one for DD.
So, they now require two MMR shots? One at 12 months and one at 18 months? Is that what I'm getting? It used to be one at 12-18 months and another at 4-5 years.
I know for the school systems here, you can actually go to school behind on something like MMR or chicken pox as long as you had the first one within so much time before the school year started. Then they give you so much time to get the second one. Kids can actually start behind on the double dose vax's but there is a time limit to get the second one. I don't know the DHEC rules but is there any chance that there's some sort of exception so kids don't have to have the shots so close?

Hey kohlby... I'm still not clear why just getting the first shot wouldn't make him up-to-date. Seems strange that they would then require that the second shot be bumped up a few years.

Apparently SC DHEC requires a 15 month AND an 18 month MMR. They have also added in a 30 month vax but I am not sure what it is. I do not know when this changed.

I don't know what to tell you beyond what I have explained already- these are state reg's set down by the Department of Health. He will not be current bc he has only had ONE of the two required in the series.
