Good news. I have 3 friends who recently had babies. All three tried breastfeeding, but only one continued past the first month. :(

I was just at mommy group. There were 5 of us there today and all BF. Of course DS was the oldest there but hey I hope those ladies hang in there. I did mention this site to a couple of them. Lets hope they log on!

I'm glad that more are trying it, but I would love to know what the numbers are at say 3,6,9,12 months. I would be curious to know if more babies are being bfed longer.
I also find it interesting that unmarried, poor & rural women have the lowest numbers. You would think they would be more inclined to bf simply to save money.

yeah but they're the last ones to have the benefits explained to them and the first to be critisized (sp?) by their peers
:(
Been there....Done that :crying:
They have the least reliable resources available and almost all of them push formula.

I think it is because they are uneduated and it is what everyone else is doing. My husbands family is from Colombia and only one out of thirty adults has past a high school education from there (his uncle, aunts, and mother) (his father has a BS).. They constently tell me to give ds a bottle so he will sleep longer and it is healther for me..etc. I just nod and smile because it is their children who tell me because they do not speak a word of english... well 95% of them.

Yes, and if more people are trying it, a few more people are probably sticking with it.
I think hospitals are becoming more friendly and helpful too. I am sure not all of them are, but I think the education in hospitals is increasing. The one I delivered ds and dd at was failry supportive. The nurses knew how to help. With ds, they didn't even ask, it was more of a here, breastfeed.
