My son Lucas is 2 1/2 months old, and has been gaining weight very well (birth weight--7lbs 9oz, 21 1/2 inches long; 2 month weight--11lbs 5oz, 25 1/2 inches long). I have been feeding him on demand, unless he doesn't wake himself within 4 hours of the last feeding, at which point I wake him. Over the last few days, he has been very fussy at the breast. He sucks and swallows well initially, but then it seems that he's trying to suck but nothing is coming out. He eventually starts to grunt, then screams and bats at my breast with his hands. When I take him off, he fusses for a couple of minutes, but then seems to calm down. I pumped after his last couple of feedings, just to make sure my milk supply was kept up, and I pumped about 1.5 ounces each time. He has not been asking to nurse more frequently, as he had during previous growth spurts, so I am confused about what is going on. Is it possible to lose my milk supply after 2 1/2 months of sucessful feeding? What could be going on?

They can get frustrated at almost 3 months when the flow slows down at the end of the feed. Do some breast sompression - rub from the chest wall down as he feeds..helps to keep the milk flowing!
Also, you can switch breasts every 5 minutes to keep him interested, rather than at the 15 minute mark :)
