To let if I have an overly fast flow and if there is, can I slow it down? My ds is taking a few sucks, screaming then throwing up. What can I do?

You're wondering about an overactive letdown?

Indeed, there's lots to be done. We have many here who have gone through it.

Check out the linky: overactive letdown, and treatments (http://www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/fast-letdown.html)

Redheadbychoice gave you a good website. If you have any questions let me know. My ds perfers fast flow but has gotten better with normal flow. You can also drink peppermint and sage tea to help with oald (2x a day). But remember those also used to dry up your milk. Remember you stop all treatment when things start improving. My LC had me on a different schedule than the one on that website. Let me know if you need me to explain anything from the websit or if you want different options

I'd not even dream of touching the sage, at all. It's more than possible to adjust the flow/help babe adjust to too much milk; it's hard to make more milk, KWIM? Especially since those things (that decrease milk supply) affect each woman differently.

I noticed dd was able to handle my OALD better when we were in a side lying position. Also as your baby gets older he will be able to handle the milk flow better. IIRC dd was about 3 months when the OALD did not bother her anymore.

I'll also add, that at the time I did not know I had OALD and did not do anything such as block nursing to help, just positioning. (If I have that issue next time I'll know better)

I wouldn't do anything that could drastically decrease your supply b/c it will get better over time.

I don't think I want to touch my supply! I'd be afraid it would go down to much! Thanks for the info!
