could anyone share stories of successfully and nursing from one breast only?

my left side is basically shutting down (it seems) and i was wondering if it is possible to feed from only the right side. to those who have done this, did you have to supplement at all?

i am so lopsided and the left side is not doing so well. the right is still producing fine i think.

Yes, women can successfully nurse their babies from only one breast. If given adequate stimulation, one breast is capable of fully producing all of a baby's needs.

What makes you think your left breast isn't producing? How old is your baby?

Gypsy posts here, I know that she's nursed her son with just one breast, and he's healthy and gorgeous. :)

I've nursed my 17mo old from one breast only with no problems. We have two breasts for twins :). If your baby is willing to nurse from the side that produces only little, I'd still continue to nurse from that side too. I am slightly lopsided because my son still nurses from the other breast (dd2 refused the left, he doesn't mind but he is down to two sessions a day) and my lopsidedness is not that noticeable.

If it bothers you visually you can always get a silicone pad to put in your bra. Amazon sells them.

I nurse my six month old from only one breast. I consistently have him start on the lesser producing breast in hopes that it will eventually catch up but he really nurses solely from the right. He is perfectly healthy and gaining very well.

How do you know that you are shutting down?

My little one prefers one side but will still eat from both, so I might not have the best advice. As long as your baby is gaining don't worry.
