Hello,

My baby is 11 weeks old. When she was born, they placed her in NICU due to a slight fever and low blood sugar. While in NICU, they began to give her formula. After leaving the hospital I began to breastfeed her and I continued the formula (she was already drinking 2oz. at each feeding). When home she ate every three hours. On her 1 month check-up, the doctor told me to alternate formula feedings, therefore, only every 6 hours. My baby was not happy with this drastic change. I felt like I was starving her. After 1 week of this, I began to BF her first and then give her 1oz. of formula. This seemed to calm her down, but she was still hungry. Finally, at her 2 month check-up, she was back at her normal routine: BF first, then 2 oz. of formula. I feel as if she's been drinking more breastmilk at each feeding, which is why I have not had to increase the formula intake; however, everytime I pump I can only get 1oz. Since leaving the hospital I have only been able to get 1oz at each session and this is while using the Medela double pump. My concern is that I am not pumping enough for my baby and since I have so little, I have not been able to build up a stash. I return to work this week and don't know what to do. Is 1oz. sufficient for her age? She weighs 10.4oz and her birth weight was 6.4oz. I have been reading about fenugreek, so I will begin to use that today if possible. I read about so many moms that are producing 2-5 times what I am producing and feel that I am lacking
PS - I am pumping at work 3 times a day and work from 8-6.

Most women only pump about 1/2 ounce when also feeding around the clock. You are very normal. Her weight gain appears good. Goat's Rue works better than fenugreek. Check out www.lowmilksupply.org Also go to my website www.thenewbornbaby.com/workingandbreastfeeding for a fabulous book.
