I have been BF for the past 3 months now. Ever since I started I have had a lot of pain on my left nipple. My right nipple has never bothered me. When ever I put him on the left side I feel pain. I wound up with a cut around my left nipple about a 2 months ago which has healed. I have seen a LC and she says that he is latched on right but I still feel the pain. Should I just get used to it and ignore it? Or is something actualy wrong? I have no idea what it could be that causes the pain. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank You, Jocie

It sure sounds like yeast/thrush. I would say since you have had it so long that I would let your OB doc know and ask about medicine for yeast.

I was treated for yeast but the doc said she didn't see anything wrong no abnormalities. And why would I have yeast only on one side and not the other. And the baby has no signs of yeast or thrush he is perfectly fine.

Sometimes yeast just grows on one side. Did the pain get better at all with the yeast tx. Good tx is diflucan daily for 2-3 weeks

no the pain didn't get any better with the meds I did do the diflucan. I took it twice because that is what i was prescribed. But wouldn't the baby have the yeast also? Wouldn't he need to be treated also? Or is it just me? I have weird and picky nipples I swear.:hugegrin:Thanks though

only 2 days of diflucan is not enough to kill breast yeast. babies don't always get yeast. some moms are just more disposed to it. I would go back to the ob, tell you still are having pain and tell her your lactation consultant suggested 2 weeks of daily diflucan to kill the yeast. You could also try some topical antifungal and hydrocortisone, but I would prefer the diflucan first.
