Hard Breasts

I am nursing for the first time and my baby is 1 week old. I notice that when I wake up in the morning and sometimes during the day my breasts become hard and tender. I will try to feed or pump and they will feel better for a little while. Is this normal and if so how long will this last?

Yes, this is normal and should be lessening every day. The engorgement should be gone by about 2 weeks. Then you will wonder why your breasts never get hard any more! It is a crazy life!
If you want to relieve some of the discomfort, you may pump for 1-2 minutes ONLY. You don't want your body to think you have had twins!!!
