I tried to find one of those threads on dieting/losing weight...

I started the Slim-fast program 2 weeks ago, and have lost some weight, which I am excited about, but my 11 month old has been having a lot of loose stools.

Has anyone else come across this? Is it the Slim-Fast. The only thing different is we've also been giving him sippy cups of formula in addition to his breastmilk because I haven't been able to pump as much milk lately and in the slow process of weaning.

I know many of the Slim-Fast products contain artificial sugars. That may be the cause of the loose stools.

Slim-Fast diets concern me b/c they offer no long-term solution for weight-loss
What about other diets (Weight Watchers, South Beach diet--start in phase 2) that basically teach you the "better" ways to eat?

I agree that it is not good for long term. I was just using it to help me with my portion control and to relearn my body's queues that I'm full. I will look into something different.

I eat healty foods... just too much of them. LOL.

Thanks. :)

Please don't do slim fast. It's full of sugar and does not a thing for you. It's teaching you to deny your hunger and try to pacify it with some sugary milk. That's not helping you to change your eating habits, activity habits, or way of life.

Weight Watchers has a program for nursing moms, take a peek there.

I have been doing WW. I use the extra points for nursing. And have been losing weight.

WeightWatchers is GREAT for nursing moms, you get tons of extra points (like 10 extra per day)! You lose weight slowly which is the best way to go...I'm down 40+ lbs. from my highest (10 months pregnant) time with no impact at all on my production. You eat healthy food (no fake stuff, lots of fruits, veggies, lean meats, and whole grains, whatever you like basically) and learn to behave yourself (but indulge here and there within reason). My sister just lost 30 lbs herself. It's definitley not a quick fix but it's agreat program. Theres an online program as well. Good luck, i gained 42 while pregnant, but had 30 to lose before that so I've got a LONG way to go!

My parents cooked with weight watchers cookbooks. I have never had a problem with weight but I continue to cook it for dh and me. I think they are well balanced meals. Definitely try WW. Good luck.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Weight Watchers, I have 8 lbs to go till goal weight I started it about 10 weeks ago, and lost 10 lbs already. It really does re-teach you about portion control and I love that I can still eat whatever I was already eating just portional and staying in my points for that day!

I used Slim Fast for three or four months before I got pregnant and lost 8 pounds. I also exercised at least 20-30 minutes a day and ate a healthy dinner and a snack at night. I have been thinking of trying it but I don't want to harm my milk supply. I say just start exercising and eating healthy, that way it's good for you and your baby.

I agree with those who suggest WW. I haven't tried it yet, but my DH's mom and sister are on WW and have been living pretty healthy for quite some time. The only memory I have of Slim Fast (my sister and mom were always on diets) was that I gained weight from drinking their shakes...LOL, but they DID taste pretty good! Once in a while, I will drink one if I have a sweet tooth. Yeah, I'm kinda weird like that. LOL.

I wouldn't recommend Slim Fast for a nursing mom. Nursing moms need to eat. Cutting calories all day is bad for milk supply.

Exercise is a good thing. A nursing mom can and should exercise- but instead of restricting food, a nursing mom should look for and eat really good food, IMO.

:( I need to lose about 70 pounds to even tape into the Guard. I have been running all year long, I know that I am not going to lose weight over night but I know that I could do better. My biggest problem is eating. My family does not take restrictive eating very seriously. I can't always eat something healthy because my mom seems to always want to take the easy way out with cooking by frying and fixing a bunch of sweets and buying alot of drinks. What can I do and how can I do it. If I bought my own food I would go broke trying to feed myself and I wouldn't have many places to store it at. I need help....badly!!!!!!!!

I'm getting serious about losing twenty or so pounds to go back into Navy Reserve. Thirty would be okay, as well.

Hang out with me and be my buddy!

Got a microwave? You can probably make yourself some easy foods and skip the frying. How do you feel about bean burritos?

Skip the drinks. Drink water. Drink some milk. Eat a piece of fruit at every meal. Eat a piece of fruit between meals.

Just putting some healthy food in your mouth will reduce the amount of bad stuff you eat. Try it. You can probably afford a bag of apples, right?

If you can stuff a couple of bags of frozen veggies in the freezer you can grab a microwaved bowl of veggies as well. Even with some olive oil and salt, veggies are a better snack than anything fried!

Make an easy goal for the week, like: Drink a gallon of milk (not all at once!- over the week.)
Eat a couple of pounds of veggies.
Eat a bag of apples.

If you are not from a restrictive-eating family, try positive eating instead! Eat good things. If you are running a lot, you shouldn't try to go to starvation diets, anyway- you need a lot of carbs and some protein to support that.

You can even microwave quesadillas- put a couple of tortillas on a plate with some low fat cheese in between, cover with another plate (so it will steam) and nuke it. If you use corn tortillas you'll get a bonus of calcium.
