Ok this is my first time breast feeding. I have 3 kids and I only breast fed my newest one. He is now 3 1/2 months old now and I have yet to get a period. I did the bleeding after he was born for 4 weeks but never got a period after that. I don't know what to think. Is this normal with breast feeding or should I run up to the store and get a pregnacy test. I really don't want to be pregnant again but if i am I guess i will be having another baby.

Hi! It is perfectly normal to not have a return of your cycle during breastfeeding, especially during the time your are exclusively breastfeeding (i.e. not feeding solids or other supplements). Your cycle can return at any time. Some people only get a few weeks cycle free, others a few months and still others are 2 or more years without their cycle. IME, it's been different with each babe.
You can get pregnant before you have a period though so, if you aren't ready for another baby -take proper precautions.

I only nursed my first for 6 mo and pumped for her another 2.5 months but slowly pumped weaned during that time. It took me 6 weeks from the last time pumping to get my period again. The second time around I only got my period back after I night weaned my 18 months old son because we wanted to conceive again. My dd2 is 17.5 months old and I have not had a period yet.
If you breastfeed on demand, night nurse, have a baby that is less than 6 mo old, then your changes are quite high that you are NOT ovulating. BUT, and here is the big but, you will not know when that first time ovulation comes back. For some mommies that happens earlier than the 6 months.
So, if you are having unprotected sex then running out to the store to get a test, even though most likely you are not ovulating, isn't a bad idea.
If you don't want to risk getting pregnant right now, you should use some form of birth control. If you are a bit relaxed about it you could simply check your mucus. You basically stick your finger into your vagina, move it around the vaginal walls and then rub that finger with yoru thumb and slowly draw the fingers apart. If your mucus is like egg white and is stringy, you are most likely ovulating. If there is no sticky, stringy mucus present you can assume that you are not fertile.
