DS has been chewing (more like sucking) his belt on the right side. I try to tighten it as much as possible so that he can't get it. But, he still manages to get it in his mouth.

I know these belts are supposed to withstand great force.... but how much damage could his sucking/biting (he only has 3 1/2- he's 9 months) do?

Aw, that's cute!

I don't think he could do much damage to that strap. But you could buy the cloth strap covers that they sell to keep the straps from rubbing kids the wrong way. He might not enjoy sucking on that as much. Maybe you could hook a teethy toy to his car seat.

You're right, I forgot about those... we'll be hooking up all toys tomorrow. He didn't do it today, but I also had a huge toy to entertain him. Thanks1

Please don't put strap covers on it, unless they actually came with the car seat. Car seat accessories, after market (suck as the head positioners, the strap covers, the cushy things for them to nap against, etc.) are not safe as they were not tested with the seat.

Honestly, if he's able to get it to put it in his mouth, the straps probably need to be tightened. Wait, he's just sucking on it? So he's leaning his head over and licking it? I'm sorry, I'm trying not to be dense, I'm just trying to imagine how on earth he's getting it into or near his mouth.

I used the cloth covers.... I don't see how they could hurt your baby... but I guess manufactureres never forsee harmful situations until after something happens and they have to recall their products.

The manufacturers of those after-market products KNOW that they're not safe. But, since those things are not illegal, they don't have to recall them. I just hate seeing all the 'car seat adaptive' things at the Target or Wallymart. It makes my fingers itch to post signs with info on them. ;)

I guess I must not be tighten them as much. I mean, I always allow for a bit of room (a finger or two) but somehow, he has been able to get it in his mouth and suck/chew. He's going through major teething.....
