I have kind of a unique situation and question regarding breastfeeding:
I have moderate Tourrette's syndrome but I had been able to be off my medication for the last two years, apparently the hormonal changes during pregnancy have made it come back with a vengeance. Some of my tics are quite painful (popping my shoulders, grinding the tendons in my hands) and others (eye and facial tics) make it difficult to carry out normal tasks like driving. But I can still function, if not somewhat unpleasantly; and I can still actually carry out the action of nursing, my tics do not affect this (they do make me have to be a little more creative in positioning).
Anyway, I'm breastfeeding and I am unable to find any medications that are compatible with breastfeeding. In the past I have been on Risperdal, Topamax, Geodon, and Clonidine. Drug information on these medications all recommend against breastfeeding. My doctor basically tells me to either tough it out or switch to formula (which is not an option), he also has refused to refer me out to a qualified neurologist as he doesn't feel it's necessary, especially if I plan to keep breastfeeding.
Are there any medications that are safe for use in treating tourrette's syndrome while breastfeeding? or perhaps alternative therapies? (I'm not into hypnosis or meditation, I just don't have the attention span)
I would be forever grateful for some advice.

You indeed are in a unique situation and I have been working with BF moms for a long time. Although I do not have a quick answer I have access to a professional line that can only be used by health care professionals. It is run by Dr. Ruth Lawrence who is one of the most respected physicians when it comes to BF. Would it be feasible to give me a call on my business line and we can see what we can work out. My business # for nurturingmom is 347 244-MOMS(6667) or email me directly through my website www.nurturingmom.net.
Your baby is lucky to have such a devoted mother. Good luck and I hope to speak to you soon.

thanks for your support, I'll be emailing you shortly. I'd call but I doubt you want to listen to VeggieTales in the background, lol.
