This is spun off my other thread about models not plus size modeling plus size clothing and a comment was made about ANTM and the fact that their "plus size" models weren't even a size 12.
This has me curious, what size is plus size to you and why?

I would say 16 or 18 on up. Those are usually the sizes I see listed as plus size in stores or whatever. You know, it does suck that plus size models aren't used for plus sized clothing, but I also don't see any short size 10/12 models either :( Boo hoo, I am done complaining now! :)

16 and up usually is what i see... what burns me is that 33% of the US is overweight and the plus size sections in most stores are pitiful- I wouldnt be caught dead in some of that stuff.

I also say 16 and up.
It is so hard to find cute, in style clothes in larger sizes.
I mean, I want to wear what the size 8 wears just a little bigger. Is that so hard? Instead we have to go to Lane Bryant (which I love BTW) and spend a fortune to look fabulous.
I still even have a hard time because my middle is bigger and my legs are thin. Usually pants are waaayy to big in the hips, butt, leg area and fit perfect in the waist. I walk around looking like I have a load in my shorts.

I know what you mean my mother is the same way. My sister has an XL top (Small chested) and a size 22 bottom. She has a hard time finding clothing that fits too.

18 and up. I hate looking online or catalogs and all the plus size clothing is worn by someone who is a size 10. Of course it is gonna look good on them.

at least a 16, but I have always considered an 18 to be plus, and 16 to be just on the line, LOL. That may be due to the fact that I was a 16 and maybe refused to consider myself a plus, LOL.

I consider size 12 plus size. IMO

16 or 18, which is where I am now :crying: I would be happy with a 12. I have lots of clothes that size, I just can't get my butt into them.

I agree with size 16 being the beginning of plus size.

I'd say a size 16 and up.

I've actually seen a LOT of cute clothes in plus size.

The thing is the 'regular' models are size 0 and 'regular' girls IRL are not. So, it only stands to reason that the plus size models are a size 8, which is considerably larger than the regular models.

I'd say a size 16 is on the line. I've seen women's clothes from 4-16 and then plus being 16 and up. I'm not sure if a women's 16 is cut any differently than a plus size 16. (Like a jrs size is cut differently than a misses).

It's hard to find clothes below a 4 or even below a 6 sometimes - yet the models are 0's and 2's. (And very tall at that size! A person 10 inches smaller isn't underweight at that size!) I have heard that plus size models start at a size 12 - despite plus sizes starting at a 16. So maybe it's the same thing - most women's clothes in the stores start at a 4/6, yet many models are 0/2.

Size 14 and above is "plus size".

It also depends on the store. In my very favourite store, Reitman's, they have two size 14s: Petite sizes run in even numbers (2, 4, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16) and Women's Plus also runs in even sizes, but starts at a 14 (14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24). The Petite's size 14 is quite a bit smaller than the Women's Plus size 14. They are also cut differently, with the rise in the pants significantly longer in the Women's Plus; the hips bigger, as well. This store's Regular size starts at a 3 and goes up to 15 (3, 6, 9, 11, 13, 15).

In the Petites and Regular section, the casual shirt sizes are XXS, S, M, L, XL. In the Plus size section, the casual shirts are 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x.

I'm kind of an "expert" because I've been a size 9/M all the way up to a size 3x/22. I'm now an XL/14.

So for me, I will consider myself out of the plus sizes when I'm down to a 12/14 in Petites, even though I would normally consider a 14 "plus size"

My husband has similar issues -- despite being 6'6 and nearly 200 lbs, everything is cut way too large for him. Even though male models are quite thin!

lol. I'm 5'5 3/4". I weigh 138lbs and I wear in between a 8-12. Let me tell you, just because you wear a 12 doesn't mean you are plus.

I agree with still me. I was also a size "8-12". But you can also go in to a store and pick out two pairs of jeans, the "same" size and one would be to big, and one to small. I am at 157 right now, and would LOVE to be back to my 135. I think it is all about where you feel comfortable and healthy.
Another thing...
I think 8-12 is average. If you don't, try looking for those sizes next time you go shopping. They are the ones that get sold out first.
