Our last actual nursing session with milk transfer was at the end of September, but she's nursed twice since then and asked a few other times. She didn't actually want to nurse the other times, though. She just wanted my attention.

I know she's really done, though, because she has recycled her old nursing sign into a game that has nothing to do with nursing.

I had meant to nurse until she turned two, but we went a little longer than 21 months. I'm content, but ending that relationship with my last baby is a little bittersweet.

Lydia is lucky to have a great mommy to nurse her for 21 months. I can understand it being bittersweet though. I know I will feel the same way when the times comes for me.

How did you do it? I'm having a helluva time weaning my 21 month old! Got any helpful hints for me. The two "little girls" are TIRED.

To be honest, mrsfratus, it was pretty mutual. She had entered a phase where she was more interested in other things, and I just started encouraging those other interests. We stopped going to bed in my bed, and got more into bedtime stories and songs in her room. After a few days, she stopped asking to nurse when she was in my bed.

When she asked to nurse, I tried to interest her in something else, but I never refused her if she was certain that was what she wanted. Lydia never wanted to "dry-nurse" either, though. Once my supply was gone, so was her interest.

What is your baby's pattern like?
