Gumming my boobs

My ds has just recently started a new weird habit. After he's done eating for a minute, he gums my nipples. Almost like he's trying to latch on, but when I put my nipple in his mouth, he spits it out and continues to gum. Is this normal, or does he just like the feel on his gums?
