I am a new mother and can only nurse in the football hold position. I am looking for a product to cover up with when nursing in public. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Why are you unable to nurse in other positions? Any way we could help you with that? How old is your baby?
For nursing in public (NIP), I generally suggest a sling. Not only can it be used for good coverage, but then it's great for carrying baby! You can also sling babe and nurse babe about the house, still having your hands free for other things.

My breasts are large and it seems to be the most comfortable for both of us, but I would be willing to try other positions. This was the only one the LC helped me with in the hospital. My son is almost 8 weeks old. I would love to try the sling. Are there any that are better than others? There are so many out there!

I had a "Hooter Hider" or a "BeBe AuLait" (same product different name). I loved it although it was not as long as I would have liked. I passed it down to my sister.

Even being bigger breasted, you can use other positions.
Here's a linky: nursing when well-endowed (http://www.plus-size-pregnancy.org/NursingWhenWellEndowedFAQ.html)

I second nursing in a sling. I did have a Hooter Hider. It worked well for me when ds was really young. As he got older, he didn't like his head to be covered.

i was quite large while nursing too (38 f...yowzaa!) the only hold dd allowed was the cross cradle...opposite arm holding babe, arm on the same side of babe's head held the breast. worked just fine for us. :)
for NIP, i had a hooter hider ( but that only worked for the first couple of week until dd figured out that she hated being covered up.
i've heard a sling works great too and i'll be trying this with the next babe, whenver they decide to show up :)...but dd hated my sling . i think it's because i didn't start her in it right away and by the time she was a few months old, she was quite independent and didn't want to snuggle in with me. next one is going in right away!!
what DID work for me was a nursing tank and a shirt over top. ( my faves were by bravado designs...tanks, bras and undies. really great quality, cute and no nursing holes or underwire...but still great support . their website is www.bravadodesigns.com i love their stuff!!!)
the nursing tank covers up your belly ( which was the part that felt the most exposed) babe covers up the majority of the breast and the nipple once latched...and the over shirt covers up everything else that you feel needs to be covered. really, once you get the hang of it, there isn't but an inch or two of skin showing.
practice in front of a mirror and you'll feel better abou the whole thing.
good luck!!

I just hate that name, it's not something I would like to hear my dh or kids use (hooters for breasts) so why would I buy a product like that.
But that's besides the point right LOL.
I loved my mobywrap which you can drape around your babe when nursing and IMO it's a great sling.

I sling nurse in public myself. I can only do football or side lying at home cause my belly gets in the way. The hernia made it bigger. But the sling works awesome for me and I keep moving and doing whatever while nursing.

I like the suggestion of using a nursing tank under your regular shirt. I still do this. Works great for me. The nursing tank covers your belly, and the other shirt covers the top of your breast. You really are well covered. No need to use a blanket or hooter hider.

I found I prefer to use my hooter hider (or babe au lait, whichever name you prefer) for pumping so I don't feel so out there. Works great!

I had a Kushies nursing bib that I really liked with my first. It's essentially a recieving blanket with a tie at the back. I could see babe, babe could see me, but no one else could see him or my breast. It was fab. I also used to cart my U-shaped nursing pillow (Boppy) with me everywhere. It made life so much easier!

I would also suggest nursing infront of a mirror so you can see how different postions look. That way you can adjust anything you feel is uncomfortable and feel more confident while NIP.
I like tanks under button down shirts.
That way my tank can be pulled down from the top, and I unbutton from the bottom up so my top makes a nursing cover.

I have a hooter hider, and I hardley use it at all. Personally, I just prefer to nurse, and my babies hate to be covered. It is nice though, and they are cute.
Just as a side note, if you sew any at all, they are really east to make. I know how to sew very little, but have made a few of these for friends who are really shy about NIP. Cost me about $10.00 to make, maybe less.

I LOVE MY HOOTER HIDER!!!!!!!!!! I am a big busted modest gal and I can nurse in any position anywhere I would like. It gave me a nw sense of freedom. I still get looks in the resturant but they don't bother me. The great thing about the hooter hider is it has a neat opening at the top so you can look at your babe and do all the adjusting you need. Mora can be a 2 handed project at times

I have the BeBe AuLait and it works good most of the time. If it is too hot then she doesn't want to be under it.

I liked the hooter hider at the very beginning but now my 5 month old flings his arms around like a wild man and screams when I try to use it...I've given up. I also have a moby wrap which he hates nursing in...again I probably should've started at the beginning so he "learned" it that way. I was super modest at the beginning, I would leave the room in my own house if guests were over, but now I'm not...I just yank up my shirt and nurse away...I nursed at the zoo on a park bench a couple weeks ago. My baby covers pretty much everything anyway and I often wear a cami so you can't see my lovely muffin top and stretch marks. You have to find something that works for you, that you are comfortable with. In reality you should be able to nurse anywhere at any time without feeling the need to cover up but our society just isn't there yet. How sad.
