My dd3 had her 1 year check last week, had some blood work done, they said to call back friday for results, but were closed Friday and Monday. I just called, to get the results, they did one general blood test and a lead level test. They said the nursed has to talk to a doctor before they can give me any info. Is this standard?

That is standard, even if everything is totally fine.

Why would they make you wait and worry if everything is fine?

Nurses often aren't allowed to "interpret" results.

because most test don't say positive or negative The Dr. will get a list of numbers that he has to look at and see if any of them are high or low then decide if it is something that concerns him.

Thanks ladies. I am so worried about lead anyway, we have alot of peeling paint in this old house and I have been putting big thick strips of tape over it to prevent the peelings from getting on the floor.

I just called the housing office and told them I'd like my house tested for lead. This is military housing, privatized, and the company that runs it makes such a big stink about how much they loooove their customers... They'd sure as hell better send someone to test my house for lead.

It's like Tricare and medical health care, it's supposed to be one of our benefits, such a big deal, free health insurance... but what a pita to deal with, and the drs and nurses hardly glance at you if nothing is noticably wrong, and seeing an actual md is like pulling teeth.

Grrrr. Sorry for complaining, I know we're lucky to have healthcare, I'm just ticked right now.

Her hemogloblin and whatever else they check at one year is normal. Buuut, the lead, the one I'm worrying about, they won't have results until maybe Friday. At least now I know how the rules work over there, the doctor has to review lab results before the patient can know what the results are and lead takes longer than other stuff. Good to know!

I'm sorry you are having to wait, I know how hard that is.

Low level of lead poisoning usually cause anemia. Since her HGB is normal (indicating that she is NOT anemic), that might allow you to breathe a bit easier until the results are back.
