Hi there ,
Im coming over from the general boards to ask for some help.
My 35 year old Dh sufford a Stroke on mother's day .
He is paralized on the left side of his body and they are using electro therepy in a rehab facility.

Im confused about the difference in equipment.

What is the difference between a EMPI and a Tens Unit?

A TENS unit is the specific device that is delivering electrical impulses to help with his pain. Sounds like EMPI is the company the makes the TENS unit, from what I found online.

Does that sound right to you Catina?

I don't know about that, but just wanted to offer you good thoughts. My mom had a stroke 2 years ago (she was much older than your dh) and passed away after 6 months.
I hope his rehab goes well.
How are you? Are you getting enough support and help?

Cheryl he has no pain, they are using the Empi because it is a multi stimulator and he is using it at 70 m now.
This is used for shocking his muscles to work.
Mimi thank you.
Suzette I have had a overwhelming amount of support. I have my good days and my bad.
Dh will be coming home Friday.
He has gotten some movement in the left leg to walk but not with out a gate belt and a 4 point cane and someone on the other side of him.
His arm is still not functioning he has all feeling but no movement at all.
His speech is better but he is depressed and we are coping with it .

Thank you marrie

I hope with rehab he is able to recover. Depression can hinder the recovery process, so I hope he is able to get therapy, meds, etc for that condition.

You need to take care of yourself, too, so make sure you continue to accept any support and help that is offered.

I'll be thinking of you. If you need to talk please email me ieatnomeat@yahoo.com
