DS has started rolling over to his tummy after we lay him down to sleep on his back. We're trying not to use the swaddler anymore but are all bumper pads now breathable? He often has his face right in the bumper pad. I don't want to remove it because then he'll hit his head on the rails! Thoughts?

Never did bumper pads. They always seem to be on a nuaghty list of some sort so I never bothered. All four kids did fine without them. I just used rolled up recieving blankets kind of like sticking something under the wheel to keep it from rolling (and it was a use for those usless recieving blankets).

We don't sell them at the store I work at because of the associated risks. We recomend a firm mattress, tight fitted sheets, and nothing in the crib except baby, and a sleep sack for warmth.

Not all bumpers are breathable.

I think you may be thinking of these...

Standard crib bumbers are not breathable and are a suffocation hazard, as are blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, etc,

They do, however, make breathable crib bumbers.

My oldest had a bumper, my second co-slept, and my third had a side car w/ no bumper.

I use recieving blankets to wipe up drool and spit-up.

I never did bumper pads, either. With my last two kids, I never bothered with a crib, at all. DS slept in a pack-n-play or with me. DD only sleeps with us.
