Did he pull it out of his ass or what?

Seriously? He can't make a claim like that.

Man he really shocks the hell out of me. That isn't even possible to figure out accurately. Was there a survey sent out? Lying will profit you very little oh and look you all ready got caught.

Holy shit. I bet he's counting number of hits as "number of women who give birth," and many of us count for MANY of those hits.

Vic is a want-wit (love that word) if he really thinks that.

Is Sassy supposed to verify these professionals?
What are the safeguards in place to ensure that those signing up as professionals are actually professionals?
did sassy verify the IBCLC status of those on our ask an LC board? or better yet, HOW did sassy verify their status?

3,906,000 births in the us in 1994 (last year I see census data for)
How does Vic know that
1,953,000 DIFFERENT women have visited bf.com?
there is NO WAY IN HELL that is an accurate number.

IBCLC status can be verified through ILCA.
That claim is total bullshit.

The more I read that, the more pissed I get. MORE than half of all child bearing women? REALLY? Including teens? The working poor (who might not have a home computer)? And the homeless? MORE than 1/2 of ALL women who have babies in 2 countries?!? REALLY?
Prove that shit Victor. Oh, wait, you can't.
I do NOT like that kind of manipulative advertising. AT ALL. State the number of unique hits you get on average. Be honest. Leave it at that.

I wouldn't be so sure that 1/2 of all women in the US and Canada who give birth have internet access.

That claim is total bullshit.
If you click the link to register as a professional, it says Lactation Consultant
Doula
Midwife
Child Birth Educator
Grief or Marriage Counselor
Is Sassy supposed to verify the status of all those types of people? Or do we trust those who bother to register? Is sassy currently verifying IBCLC status? How do you verify status of some of these types of people?
And how exactly does being an "expert" at bf.com Improve your professional credentials? Are they putting that on their resume?

oh and this is why the ask an LC forum won't go away, even if the LC's give bad advice. Vic wants to add an "ask a doula" and "ask a childbirth educator" etc to the list eventually.
bleh!

WOW. This site is a great one with better potential, but this sleazy poorly managed way of doing things is cutting away at what he has not enhancing it, not for him and not for the mothers he wants to attract. The ask and PC is a great idea, with potential, but when the info handed out is so questionable it hurts the mother getting the bad info as well as bf.com. Who is going to refer friends and come back when they get poor service? There seems to be a huge lack of common sense being used in this management of this site lately.

If only we had some sort of map to track the users and verify these numbers...
well, when the map was up there were certain areas of the country that appeared to have a million little pins....
We'd have to have a million users in order to come close to verifying 1/3 of ONE YEAR of moms giving birth.

1,953,000 wouldn't even be an accurate calculation of half the child-bearing women in one year. There were 3,906,000 births but that doesn't mean that those babies belong to 3,906,000 different women. There's multiple births to take into account, and it is possible for a woman to give birth to 2 babies in one years time.
So just cutting the number of births in half would be a far from accurate number to go by, especially from a 14 year old census.

we still don't have the hits from that many DIFFERENT users.

It might be true that we don't have 1mil+ registered users, but you don't have to register to visit this website, so the number of users is irrelevant.
I'm not trying to defend the validity of the statistic, at all. In fact, I am very interested in hearing how he came up with it.
Amy_G_
06-02-2008, 02:32 PM
He could come up with that from number of hits, but I don't think he could come up with that number of unique hits from different people. And how could you verify that it's from a woman who gave birth and not a man, child, researcher, doctor, LC, perv, etc?

IBCLC status can be verified through ILCA.
Are you sure? What if the IBCLC isn't a member?

LOL Cat. That would explain it all.
I have to admit I snorted since I don't read the front page very often and decided to click the How to Help BFDC and saw this little snippet.
Now, new mothers like yourselves are not very likely to have the Compete toolbar, compared to other audiences like computer-enthusiastic men.
Well in that case I'll download it right away. I don't want no computer enthusiastic man showing me up. Since all I do is surf breastfeeding/cuddly fluffy mommy sites and haven't a clue when it comes to these computer doo-hickie toolbars. (Yeah, and I also don't know to change the engine oil in my outfit much less check it)
Must. fight. urge. to. LMAO.
