This week is our chance to get to know Billysmom better!!
Here's how POTW works:
It runs from Monday to Monday so when it is your turn to be POTW you will be in the spotlight for a whole week.
Everyone can ask questions and it is up to the POTW to decide if they would like to answer them. Some questions may be too personal and that is fine - you don't have to answer everything.
This thread is not an appropriate forum to settle old scores or to flame. Do not bait the POTW with questions that bring up past transgressions. Please spin-off if you feel the need but let's keep this thread fun and supportive.
On Friday of each week I will PM the current POTW and ask them to choose the next person. The POTW can choose anyone who asked a question on their thread that week and someone, preferably, who has not been chosen in the past year. If you do not wish to be POTW you can still ask questions, just let the current POTW know that you do not want to be chosen for the next week (for instance, you will be out of town).

What are your other hobbies?

Thanks again for picking me! :D
So, I know you like scrapbooking:
Do you do paper or digital? Paper. I didn't know digital existed until I joined this board. I really like being able to play around with the materials and watching the pages appear as I figure things out.
What is your favorite supply to use? I've just recently discovered 3-D embellishments. I used to stick with different papers and lettering. Now, I'm slowly starting to get comfortable with 3-D stuff like ribbons, buttons, flowers, etc.
What do you like to scrap? I have a scrapbook that I started for my son when I was on maternity leave. I really need to get back to working on it. I've made scrapbooks as gifts for people. I just made 2 20-page 8 x 8 scrapbooks for my mom and MIL for Mother's Day. I did both of them in 3 nights and finished them Mother's Day morning. I wish I could make a business out of scrapbooking. I'd love for someone to hand me a stack of pictures, tell me what color tones they like, and pay me to make them a scrapbook.
What are your other hobbies? I love to read, mostly fiction with an occasional non-fiction book to mix it up. I like taking pictures, but I'd never consider myself a photographer. I like reality tv, working on household projects with DH, spending time with family, and of course, hanging out with my son. I used to go country line dancing every week before I met D, but. I've only been a few times since then. I'd love to get back into that every once in awhile.

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You win $1,000 and have to spend it today - what do you buy?
Some new clothes for me - I desperately need some summer clothes that fit. Scrapbooking supplies, some books, and a massage for me. A new bedroom set for the room ds will move into when he gets bigger, and some decorations for the basement for DH.
You win $10,000 and have to spend it today - what do you buy?
Same as above, plus a new couch for our living room and new furniture for the basement (we're currently finishing the basement). A new bed and bedroom set for me and DH. Clothes for ds in upcoming sizes, a nice vacation for the family, and pay off the credit card bills.
You win $100,000 and have to spend it today - what do you buy?
Same as above, plus another nice vacation with extended families, a deck for the pool, and put on the addition to our house that we were planning to do next year before I left my job. I'd use the rest to pay down the mortgage.

Ok let's see.... :tha115: "lol9"
Who is your favorite younger sister and why? Hmmm... probably my younger SIL. She never lived in the same house or bedroom as me. Ha Ha! ;)
What was your nickname growing up? Kimmy. I have no recollection of any other names.... and anyone else that does will not have any help planning her daughter's birthday party this month. (Nice try!)
Are you a morning person? Not by any stretch of the imagination. The only way I function in the morning is if I've been awake the entire night before, or have massive amounts of coffee. (And even then, you're taking your chances by talking to me.)
Had any fun yard sales recently? I don't believe that fun and yard sales belong in the same sentence. If the wind knocked over those damn clothes racks one more time, I was going to take a match to the clothes!! Adventures and yard sales, maybe. Heh.

If you could start college all over again, what would you have majored in? Depends on which half of my brain you ask. One half says Actuarial Science or Accounting. The other half says Teaching. I go back and forth.
What's the last thing you ate? Banana Cream Sugar Free Fat Free Jello Pudding. Yum.
Drank? Bottle of water.

How many siblings do you have? 3 - I have a younger sister (haleysmom). I also have an older brother and sister from my dad's first marriage.
How many children do you plan to have? 2 or 3. We're undecided at this point. The plan is to have #2 and see how we feel about #3 at that point. I grew up as one of 2, and my dh is one of 3.
What is your fondest childhood memory? Wow - that's hard. I have a lot of fond memories from school, birthday parties, vacations, etc. One memory that sticks out in my brain is nighttime with my sister. We shared a bedroom until I was about 10 and she was 7. Nighttime involved everything except going to sleep. Our beds were down one end of the room, and our dressers and toys were down the other end. We used to race back and forth from our beds, touch the dresser, and run back and hop into bed. I usually beat her and without fail, my parents would peek in to check on us and catch her when she was still out of bed. We'd then start our giggling fits and sleep was impossible. We still get into laughing fits today.
Anything saved from your childhood? I'm a packrat by nature and have to fight myself to throw things away. I used to have a ton of stuff, but threw a lot away when I moved back home from college. I still have all of my softball trophies and report cards, and other odds and ends. Which reminds me, I need to get them from my Grandmom's house.

What is your heritage? I'm mostly Irish on my dad's side. I'm Czechoslovakian, Polish, German, and a few other things I'm not sure of on my mom's side. Or, as I like to joke, I'm everything that sunburns. Ha Ha.
Pick one: Bungee jump, sky dive, repel down a mountain. Sky dive - I'd love to do it someday.
If you had to dye your hair an extreme color, what would it be? Hmmm. I've never dyed my hair. I'd have to say purple - my favorite color.
Dark or milk chocolate? Milk chocolate hands down. I've never acquired a taste for dark chocolate.
Favorite mixed drink Anything fruity and sweet. I like Sex on the Beach, Malibu Bay Breeze, Screwdrivers, Fuzzy Navels, Sloe Gin Fizz, Amaretto and Sprite, etc. I'm a bartender's nightmare because I order a different mixed drink everytime I go back to the bar. I'm always looking for a new drink to try.
Are you an outdoors girl or an indoors girl? A little of both. I love to play sports and wish I had more chances to do that. I'm beginning to like gardening and yard work. I'm also content to scrapbook or curl up with a book. Unless by outdoors you mean camping or hiking, then no.
Favorite brand of jeans Haven't found one yet. I used to wear nothing but New York & Co. jeans a few years ago. Ever since I gained weight and then got pregnant, it's pretty hit or miss. I'd love to find some good jeans that didn't break the bank, or make me look 80.

What do you hope your children have that you didn't? Confidence and the ability to stand up for themselves. I have them now, but it's been a long time in the making, and I'm still working on it.
Where would your dream vacation take you? A tour of Europe with my extended family. I'd love to see Ireland, Germany, England, Spain, France, Italy, Greece, etc. I went to Spain and France in high school and told my parents that if I ever won the lottery, I'd love to take them to Europe.
What color are your eyes? Mostly green, with some blue in them. They were bright blue when I was younger and changed as I got older. They go back and forth depending on what color clothes or eyeliner I wear.

Will you post a pic of yourself and your family? I definitely need to hand my camera off more often so that all 3 of us get into a picture together.
Here we are out our wedding in October:

Here we are at a BBQ this past weekend:
http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc20/scoobykimmy/l_7bdfec5c4f186c125f75a014d267f1a1.jpg
Any tattoos or piercings? I have 5 earrings (3 in the left, 2 in the right), and a tattoo on my lower back. It's a heart with flowers, and I plan to add my children's names inside of it, when I'm finished having kids. (I just tried to take a picture to post, but I don't have the arm-behind-the-back-while-twisting-to-look-in-the-mirror coordination to make it work. Heh.
Do you attend church? No
Do you exercise? I'm working on that. I've recently started TaeBo and have been trying to find chances to play sports. I also need to find a way to get walking into my daily routine.
Are you spiritual? Somewhat. I'm still finding my place in the realm of religion and spirituality.
Tell me your favorite thing about your DH? That's though to pick one thing. He is my best friend and he knows and loves the real me, quirks and all. He can also make me laugh like no one else!

Are you excited about Barack's win tonight? I don't know. I'm not much for politics. I haven't paid much attention to this election. There is just so much overload of information that my brain tunes out. I hope his win will mean that the Democrats will stop the fighting from within and work on a strategy against the Republicans.
Congrats on being selected!
I collect dead batteries with the intention of eventually recycling them. What odd/quirky things do you collect?

Congrats on being selected!
Thanks!
I collect dead batteries with the intention of eventually recycling them. What odd/quirky things do you collect? I'd have to say greeting cards. I have an entire box of them in my "scrapbooking" room. I have the ultimate intention of using them for scrapbooking, but right now, they're just taking up space. I recently went through them and threw away a bunch of baby shower/bridal shower/wedding cards that I didn't want to keep or couldn't use for scrapbooking, but that didn't make much of a dent. I still have a big box of them.
I carry around a list of Things To Do Before I Die. What 3 Things make your list? Hmmm. I'm gonna think about this one and come back to it in a little bit.
What's your favorite sammich ingredient? Cheese. I love a good cheese or grilled cheese sandwich. 2 or 3 different kinds of cheese, and tomato if I'm being adventurous. My favorite sandwich is peanut butter and banana. Yum!
What color do you paint your toenails? Different shades of purple, my favorite color. I don't like the look of most purples on my fingernails, so I get my fill on my toes.

How did you meet your DH?
Brian is a volunteer firefighter and friends with my cousin. 3 years ago, my cousin was trying to fix me up with a different firefighter and invited me to his Memorial Day cookout. I quickly realized my intended fixup was not my type and not worth my time. I was playing horseshoes and noticed Brian the minute he walked into the backyard.
I asked my cousin's wife about him, and found out that he was a nice guy and on the verge of a breakup with his girlfriend (who nobody liked). After hanging out that day, I knew I was interested and told my cousin and his wife. They found out that he had noticed me and let him know that I was intereted. Two days later (Wed.), Brian was at their house asking for my number. We had our first day on Friday, our second date on Sunday, and have been inseperable ever since. It's the closest thing I've ever had to love at first sight.
How did he propose? We went on vacation with my parents to Williamsburg, Virginia. We were walking around Colonial Williamsburg in the afternoon and went to walk into the gardens behind the Governor's Palace. My parents didn't have passes because my Dad had spent a day and a half in the hotel room sick, so the lady wouldn't let them in. Brian, my Dad, and I kept walking and didn't realize that my mom had stayed behind. When we turned around to look for her, she motioned us to come with her. She said that the lady was going to let them in for a couple of minutes and then we had to come right back out.
My mom likes gardens (and can be really talkative with people), so I didn't think anything of it. We started walking around and my mom said she wanted to take a picture. She takes pictures all the time, so again, I didn't think anything of it. Mom told us to go over by the flower trellis so we could get the gardens behind us in the picture. We walked over and when I turned around to stand next to him, he was on one knee. I instantly teared up and started shaking. I was completely caught off guard. I, of course, said yes. It was very sweet and romantic (which are not Brian's strong points). It was even more special that he planned it so my parents could be there and my Mom could take pictures.
After the fact, I found out that my mom had been carrying the ring in her pocketbook the whole trip so I didn't find it in Brian's suitcase. While my Dad and I napped the day before, she and Brian had taken a walk and Brian showed her where he wanted to propose. When the lady wouldn't let us into the gardens, Brian just kept walking and figured out he'd find another place. My mom convinced her to let us into the gardens for just a few minutes because that's where he wanted to propose. The whole thing was very special and something I'll never forget.
What is your favorite thing about being a mom? That's hard to pick just one thing. Billy is only 18 months, so this could change as he gets older. At this point, I'd have to say that I love watching him evolve as a person. He is so inquisitive, loves to figure out how things work, and has the best personality. I love to watch him learn new things, figure out a new word, have a new experience. Everything is new and amazing and innocent to him. I love snuggling with him, reading a book, and just enjoying each other. I love our days together while DH is at work, our routines, and all of the things that we've yet to experience together. Okay, so that's more than my favorite thing, but it was a tough question. :)

What is in your CD player right now? The Essential Johnny Cash CD, but I can't remember if it's disc 1 or 2.
What is the most embarassing CD you own? Justin Timberlake - Justified. I'm not embarassed by it, because I love it. DH is embarrassed that it's on the rack with his CDs.
What was the first musical concert you attended? When? Shania Twain in Philadelphia. Spring of 1999 after my sophomore year of college.
What was the last musical concert you attended? When? Pat Benatar in Atlantic City last August. I got DH tickets because he's loved her since he was a kid.
Who is your all time favorite musical artist? Garth Brooks
Who has the most talent? Johnny Cash

So what are your plans for the weekend?
Tomorrow, I'm going to our town-wide yardsale with DH, DS, Haleysmom, and Haley. Then, I'm painting at my BIL's new house while MIL and SIL take DS for the afternoon.
Sunday, I think we're going to shop for a new washer because it's old and I don't want it to ruin any more of my clothes. DH and I are going to finish staining and urethaning (sp?) the toybox we got 2 weeks ago.
Plus, there will be a little cooking, cleaning, bills and laundry thrown in there.

If you could tour with a band this summer, who would it be and why? Montgomery Gentry. They're hot, they put on a great show, and I think they'd be fun to party with.
If you could be a guilt-free groupie for any band, past or present, who would it be? Tim McGraw (even though he's not really a band.) Besides the fact that he's just awesome, it would be fun to hang out with Faith and the girls. Oh yeah, and I'd sit offstage and stare and drool over him. Yum!
Was Jenn upset by the fact that you had a boy and could use any of her damn bows? LOL Ha Ha. I think we were surprised to be pregnant together and have kids 5 months apart that we never considered boy/girl. Jenn was always the girly-girl and I wasn't. I don't know if I'd be ready to deal with the matching clothes-bows-shoes-tights-sunglasses-jackets stuff. For a stretch there, Jenn and Haley wore coordinating outfits everytime I saw them. I'm lucky if I match myself, let alone match Billy. Ha!
Do you like your java straight-up-give-it-to-me-black-or intraveneously-whichever-is -fastest or with flavors and other shit? Intravenously would be wonderful - I should invent that! I like it with a little bit of sugar and CoffeeMate French Vanilla liquid creamer. It has to be CoffeeMate and it has to be liquid. I like my coffee pale and sweet... like me! :p
Do you play cards? If so, what's your favorite game? I love cards and board games. I usually play several times a month with my MIL, SIL, and SIL's boyfriend. My current favorite is Cribbage. The 3 of them taught me and I love it.

Let's talk some serious stuff:
How do feel about assisted suicide? I think it's a very slippery slope. I think someone should be able to choose whether they want to live or die. At the same time, if he/she is unable to carry out the means to end their life, does that mean that they shouldn't still be able to make the decision for themselves?
I remember watching my Grandfather deteroriate from MS and cancer (double-whammy there) and it was horrible to watch. Towards the end, he was in pain all the time, didn't know who my Grandmother was, and most of the time wasn't conscious. I hated to see him suffering and wished there was something I could do to ease his pain. I think the difficult part with assisted suicide is that often the person who might benefit from it is not in his/her right mind to make the decision. I support the concept of assisted suicide, however the morality and legality of it makes it incredibly difficult in practice.
What is your position on circumcision? My son is circumcised. DH and I talked about it ahead of time and agreed to have it done. I never knew how many people elected to keep their sons intact until I joined this board. If I were to have another son, I would research my options more, but I imagine that DH and I would make the same decision again.
Do you vaccinate on a traditional schedule? Yes
Are you pro life or pro choice? Please explain why: For myself, I'm pro-life. I hope I'm never faced with it, but I really can't imagine any situation in which I would elect to have an abortion. For others, I'm pro-choice. I believe it is a woman's right to choose what happens to her body. I knew 1 or 2 girls in high school who had multiple abortions within the same school year. It was as if they were using abortion as birth control. While that bothers me incredibly, I do not feel it's my right, or anyone else's, to make that decision for them.
What do you think, we as a country, should do about Iraq? Get the hell out of there. (I will preference my comments by saying that I'm not very smart in the political arena.) Any good that we could possibly do for the country has already been done at this point, in my opinion. If our government feels that we need to be a world police, there are other countries out there that would be more appreciative and deserving of our aid. Not to mention that fact that we could definitely put that money and resources into our own freakin' country!
Are you crunchy? Tell us why or how so: I don't think so. (Haleysmom could probably answer better for me.) I didn't even know what that was until I joined this board. (Can you tell I've learned a lot here?) I recycle and I'm conscious about cutting down on unnecessary waste and energy usage. Aside from that, I'm still learning about new things, but haven't yet put it into practice.

Hell yeah, I love garth brooks! anyway...
I hope he comes out of retirement to go on tour again. I'd pay a LOT of money to see him in concert!
How many children do you want to have? I go back and forth between 2 or 3. Before I had kids, I thought I wanted 4. Now, I don't think that anymore. We're starting to think about planning #2. We're going to see what it's like with 2 kids, and then decide if we want a 3rd.
Do you want to have a girl or boy next? With thoughts of #2 on the horizon, I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I love having a son, and I can picture having 2 or 3 sons. At the same time, I'd also like to have a daughter (or 2). I know it's a cliche', but I will be happy no matter how it turns out.
There is a pattern in DH's family: his grandparents had two boys and then a girl, his dad (#2) and mom, and his aunt (#3) and uncle had the same pattern. His other uncle (#1) and aunt had two boys and then stopped. They joke that if we have 3 kids, we have to follow the pattern.

I know my DH would like a son.
I *knew* I was having a boy even before my ultrasound. I'm happy I had a boy first because I think that it helped DH get used to children. He was never around children or infants until ds (and my niece for 5 months before that.) For some reason, I think it was good for him to have a boy first.
I think little boys clothing is adorable!!! I have always been drawn to boys clothing even before I was pregnant. I think it's the tomboy in me.
I assume you are breastfeeding (are you? lol) Not currently.
How long do you plan on breastfeeding? I don't know. I was not successful with ds. I nursed for 6 weeks, and then I think my PPD derailed me. I was not in a good place, I didn't feel as attached to ds as I am now, and I was counting the days until I could go back to work because I felt so horrible at home with ds. I didn't realize it was PPD for awhile, and actually didn't get treated until after ds had weaned. I think that if I had gotten treatment sooner, I would have been successful at nursing longer.
After going through that, and spending so much time on this board since then (I joined when ds was almost a year), I hope to be much more successful with #2. My initial goal would be make it to 6 months, with an ultimate goal of at least a year. I honestly won't know until I'm there again, and I'm going to have to work to overcome my memories of my first experience.

I thought he played in L.A. in january..??? I guess i could be mistaken...
but i used to have a full sized card board cut out of him in my room!! idk what happened to it ...
He might have. I'm on the East coast, so I probably missed hearing about that. Besides, I wouldn't have been able to pay *that* much money. Ha!

I dont blame you, i actually live in L.A. county... about 20 miles away from East LA (it really is a horrible area, not my city, but LA) never been to the east coast, the only time i was out of cali was once my family went to vegas, and i went with my aunt and uncle to cabo, mexico (sooooo much fun!)
Anyway... i had PPD too but it didnt last very long, although my DH said it did lol.
But i think little boy clothes are adorable, too! i love the little suits and dress shirts, honestly i was torn between having a boy or girl, i would have loved either, but now that i do have a girl i love the girly stuff. I do hope for a boy next but i would love another little girl, too.
How long have you been scrapbooking? i have never done it, but i have always wanted to i just dont know where or how to start...

I made my first scrapbook for my parents' 25th anniversary, which was 4 years ago. I collected a bunch of pictures of them over the years, the hobbies they like, wedding pictures, etc. I went to A.C. Moore and picked out a book and a bunch of stickers, paper and supplies. I waited until this last minute (which is normal for me) and stayed up almost the whole night before the party finishing it. After that, I was hooked.
The thing I tell beginners is that there is no wrong way to scrapbook. Every person has their own style and preferences. I look back on prior scrapbooks that I've made and I can see how much my techniques have changed in just 4 years. It's an art form, like anything else. The more you practice and experiment, the better you'll get. I can take some pictures of some of the pages I've made if you'd like to see them. It's a lot of fun, and I think it's very relaxing.

Thank you!!! You rock!
What other names did you consider for DS- or do you lie for next child? I really liked Austin for a boy, but DH couldn't get past Austin Powers. We arrived on William prettily easily because it is DH's grandfather's name (who lives around the corner from us). We both liked the formal name, and also like Billy for a little boy. DH liked Keith, but I had a co-worker at the time who ruined the name then. It might be back on the table again if we have another boy. I tend to like more unique names and DH is pretty traditional, so it can get a little tricky. (We didn't talk about names until after we knew we were having a boy, so I have no clue how we stand on names for a girl.)
Have you ever been arrested? Nope. Unless you count a demonstration in high school for Students in Government day. I had to pretend to get caught with drugs, handcuffed and taken to a jail cell. It was especially funny because I was an honors student and "goody-goody" by other people's standards.
Have you ever been on Tv? Not really. I was on the news when I was in elementary school. Jenn (Haleysmom) and I were both in a children's singing group, and a Philadelphia news station did a story on us.
What is your FAV food to order Seafood. I love seafood, but don't cook it often, so I order it a lot at restaurants.
fav food too cook, Hmmm. That's a good question. Right now, it's probably pork chops, because they are pretty easy to cook and seem to come out good no matter how I make them. I don't like cooking as much as I like baking.
and fav food someone else makes for you(if any) DH is awesome at grilling. Lately, I have been asking him to grill me turkey burgers all the time. I also love when he makes waffles for me and Billy on the weekends.
Do you LOVE your current location- If so, what about it do you love,
if not- where would you rather live? Ask me that again when we're not in the middle of a hot and humid heat wave. Yes, I like (South) Jersey. I like that we have all 4 seasons, although I wish summer and winter were turned down just a bit. I also love that most of my family lives within a half hour drive in different directions.
I can be down the Jersey shore (that's the beach, to most of you) in an hour or 2, in Philadelphia in 20 minutes, or in the Poconos in about 2 hours. The only other place I could imagine living is probably further south, maybe North Carolina. But, I really can't imagine leaving.

Do you like board games? I love board games (and card games, too)!
What are your favorite board games? My all-time favorite is Trivial Pursuit. I actually get to use all the useless facts I have floating around in my head. I also like Pictionary, Tribond, Cranium, Scattergories... I'll play almost every board game except Monopoly. I don't like that one at all.
If you could have one day without the kids to do whatever you wanted and money was not an issue what would you do? I'd spend the day at a spa! I'd get to spend the day in a comfy robe and slippers, read and relax as I wanted to, and have people bring me food and drinks. I'd also have a manicure and pedicure, a facial, spend some time in a hot tub and/or sauna, and maybe a seaweed or mud wrap. And, I'd try out every single massage they had on their menu!!!
