So I have never had any breastfeeding problems till now. Maddie is 10 months and is starting to nurse a little less. I have this hard lump on my right breast kinda close to my under arm that hurts really bad. I had a fever last night but not one this morning. There are no red lines or streaks on my breast. I am nursing and pumping as much as I can. My hormones are still trying to adjust after the miscarriage I had this week. Anyone know what this might be? Will it go away with nursing and pumping? It hurts so bad when she nurses on my right side.

It sounds like you have a plugged duct. In addition to nursing and pumping as much as possible, hot compresses over the lump for about 10 minutes before feedings, as well as vigorously massaging the area before and during feedings. Ibuprofen will help inflammation.
Do you feel ill?

I have not feel well all week but I think it has been more from the physical and emotional aspects of the miscarriage I had.

It could be a plugged milk duct. If by tomorrow it doesn't feel any better then you should call your doctor and have it checked out. I am sorry you are hurting. I hope it gets better soon.

Hot compress sounds like it would feel good... the massaging it sounds very painful... especially since I am in pain just sitting here...

Try to massage the area as best as you can. If massaging directly over the lump is too painful, try massaging the area directly AROUND the lump, and gradually work inward. If you have a blunt-toothed comb, take it into the shower with you and while the hot water is on the plugged area, "comb" your skin as firmly as you can handle, stroking towards your nipple.
If you start to develop flu-like symptoms (fever, general body aches, chills, headache), you should see your doctor about the possibility of needing antibiotics if they don't resolve within 24 hours.
