Elise and I made these today and she LOVES them!

I was looking around on the Nick Jr. website and found some paperdoll-like Backyardigans cut outs.I thought they were supercute but too flimsy for a 2 year old so I got the brilliant idea to put them on adhesive magnets. I looked online and found a great deal on 8x10 sheets of magnets. They came in the mail yesterday and we just sat down and made them.

Here's how they turned out!

Complete with props, clothes and sceneries:

We're both really happy with them, but there's a couple things I will do differently if we make them again. I'd use the 30mil instead of the 20mil magnet sheets so they stick a little better. I would also laminate the paper before I stick it to the magnets. It didn't occur to me beforehand, but when we put the clothes on the "dolls" the magnet rubs off on them and now they look a little dirty. Also, Elise had one of those say it don't spray it moments and Pablo was the victim. So I think laminating them will make them last longer.

I ordered 10 sheets and we only used 3 for this set, so I think I might make her a different set for her birthday this month.

Thanks, we really did enjoy making them. I'm already looking around online to find our next set!

By the way, if you're interested in making your own and looking for the magnets, the best deal I found was from these guys -

They have a regular website as well, but if you're going with smaller amounts you save money on shipping by going through their Ebay store.

Oh well I feel stupid now. I was just looking on Nick Jr for more paper dolls and realized the Backyardigans ones I used are actually, "Paper Doll Magnet" cutouts. I didn't even see that when I printed them out. I thought they were just paper dolls (they were under the paper doll category). But anyway, now I feel bad and a lil stupid for taking credit for the idea. lol

Cute!! I wish Maddy would play with magnets. I had some cool paper doll magnets on the fridge and she gradually threw them all away...along with the ABC's she's such a fun sucker..

Thanks Tiff...you have given me a spark. There are SOOO many felt/flannel stories out there but I never thought to use adhesive magnets DUH!

I would love to make go-along's for our curriculum books. Can you just imagine a fridge "chicka-chicka boom-boom" set?? Or how about the "If you give a mouse/moose/pig" series.

Oh now damn I just remembered I have an AMAZING paper doll set. I tried laminating it and playing with it, but it sucks. Thankfully I still have it laminated and can just slap it on the magent and be good to go. The dolls are full 8x10 size :)
