hi My DD is 3 1/2 weeks old. Yesterday was a difficult day. In the evening he latched on well and I heard him swallowing, but after a few minutes he will scream and cry and seem frustrated at the breast. I switched him to the other breast and he did the same. I don't know if it has anything to do with the fact that he's gassy.
Then when feeding was going well, he nursed for 40 m inutes and after still cried uncontrollably after. I think he likes to suck, but he doesn't even care for the paci. i don't know if i'm having supply issues. I was able to pump 3 ozs. in 20 minutes in the morning, but in the evening was only able to pump 1.5 ozs. It's very frustrating because I feel like he's not getting enough to eat. Any ideas.

well he was 7lbs 10 ozs, when born. at the first dr. visit he weighed 8lbs. The first week i supplemented with formula, but i have weaned him off. I take him back this week for 1 month check up, so i don't currently know.

Can you take him in the next day or two for a weight check and then we will know how well he's doing. Also if you go to www.lowmilksupply.org you will find lots of great information about building up your production.

I am renting a hospital grade pump today. Is the output any indication of low supply? Thanks for your help.

It depends. Sometimes it's just that the pump doesn't do a good job. Is there a lactation consultant near you?

I will look for one.

I think that is a great idea. She will help you evaluate your supply.
