View Full Version : Is it normal for my baby to breastfeed every 1-2 hours around the clock?

My son is 6 months and 1 week old and breastfeeds every 1-2 hours around the clock. He is meeting all of his milestones. I cosleep with him because he would not have it anyother way. I cannot put him down for naps etc. Why does he feed so often. Am I not producing enough milk? It seems like I am because of his dirty and wets. He has gained 1 lb in a month.

His iron is low 8.6. He is taking supplements. Is this why or is he in a habit of waking at night? And most nights he will wake up after 20 or 40 minutes of going to sleep.

He has always feed every 1-2 hours since birth.

Any advice...comments?

Thanks

The weights sound just fine. I think it would be very helpful to have a lactation consultant evaluate his feeding and milk transfer. IS there someone near you?

Yes. Thank you. I am going to a breastfeeding group tonight for the first time. There might be a scale there. So do you mean a pre an post weight for the transfer of milk?

Yes, that can be a helpful tool. Keep in mind that milk supply is highest at 6 AM and lowest at 6 PM so the amount he transfers tonight will be less than if you checked it at 6 AM. Do you lie down to feed him for an afternoon nap and at night?
