DS has a bad cold. He can barely breathe, and he's coughing up lots. My ? is , can I do anything else for him? I'm using saline drip in his nose, and sucking out the snot, I've been giving him Tylenol every 5 hours, putting baby vics on his chest, and running the humidifier. What else? He's just miserable, and it's starting to effect his nursing. He's 3 1/2 mon. old. Thanks for you help!

Hi,
So sorry your baby has a cold. It sounds like you are doing everything you need to do.
Keep the following in mind, especially since you seemed concerned about his breathing: is he eating enough and is alert and seems happy?
is the sputum clear and No fevers?
Keep him upright at least a 45 degree angle, put a small blanket UNDER his mattress so the bed is also elevated so that he breathes easier. cool mist humidifier with a few drops of vicks in the water also helps. Please change the water everyday.
frequent check ups by pediatrician?
If your pediatrician says it is just a cold it will take its normal course.

Sputum is clear. No fever. He has enough wet diapers in a day, about 8, but he wants to constantly nurse. Could be because he doesn't feel good, though. He seems happy, when he's awake, too.

if he wants to and can nurse (and you can nurse him), it will help him get over the cold sooner because of the immune benefits you are giving him through your milk.
